Check out our latest #openaccess publication in the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, titled "Compact Fully Printed GPS/GNSS Antenna Using Embedded MTM-EBGs". This work presents a low-profile, planar #patch #antenna for full multiband #GPS and #GNSS coverage with good radiation properties across the spectrum. A #3Dprinted PLA substrate is used to lower fabrication costs of the antenna, and it is excited by a wideband #microstrip feed network that ensures a good axial ratio. I was honoured to be a Master Class speaker at the inaugural IEEE Microwave Theory & Technology Society #WMC2024, where I spoke about the evolution of the Microwave, Millimetre-Wave, and MetaDevices (M3) Laboratory at the University of Alberta and opportunities for research and education in Canada. This #openaccess work demonstrates reliable broad-bandwidth #dielectric #refractometry of liquid samples using multiple #harmonics of a simple #microwave split-ring resonator (#SRR) in a non-contact fashion. Check out our recently published #openaccess paper in the IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation - OJAP Special Section on #antenna-enabled #sensors and systems, titled "Energy Autonomous Dual-Band Antenna System for RFID-based Real-Time Battery Level Monitoring". This paper presents a self-contained antenna-enabled sensor that harvests ambient RF energy at 2.4 GHz to charge a battery, and communicates the battery level wirelessly through #UHF #RFID backscatter communication at 915 MHz, without relying on battery power, using a dual-band #patch antenna and #diplexer based on #MTMEBG technology. And that's a wrap! The Faculty of Engineering, University of Alberta's first Canadian Students at Sea experience with the Royal Canadian Navy | Marine royale canadienne came to a close today. Our students sailed on a Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel (#HMCSEdmonton), toured a Canadian Patrol #Frigate recently returned from deployment (#HMCSOttawa), saw the awe-inspiring engineering of a Victoria-class #submarine (#HMCSCornerbrook), experienced state-of-the-art naval simulators (#HMCSVenture), and learned about the capabilities of the Fleet Maintenance Facility and Naval Electronic Systems Testing Range - just a few among so many tours so carefully curated by our amazing outreach partners and friends Lt(N) N. Zach Lipinski and LtCdr Michelle Dunlop. We are grateful to the many sailors and officers who gave us outstanding guided tours driven by real passion and sense of purpose for what they do.
