📢 Today, during the #PRIinPerson event, Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, announced a green and transition taxonomy for Canada. The Green and Transition Taxonomy will be a useful tool for investors and corporations in supporting Canada’s move to a greener economy. This "made-in-Canada taxonomy" will start covering priority industrial sectors within the next 12 months.  It was also stated that the Canadian Business Corporations Act (CBCA) will require climate disclosures of federally regulated private companies and will work with provinces to get them to do the same.

Yesterday, the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) and Millani hosted a collaborative session on critical mineral development in Canada as a side event to the United Nations' Principles for Responsible Investment annual conference happening this year in Toronto. The session opened with introductory remarks from Photinie Koutsavlis (MAC) and included a panel discussion bringing together Indigenous, regulatory, corporate and legal perspectives from David Walkem (Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly and Invasive Species Council of BC), Andrew Ghattas (Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Carol Plummer (Agnico Eagle Mines Limited) and Janet Howard (Fasken), moderated by Milla Craig. This was then followed by lively roundtable discussions between our panelists and participants from Canada and abroad. Canada's Transition Taxonomy: An important decision on the horizon Earlier this year, Canada's Minister of Environment and Climate Change confirmed that Canada’s transition taxonomy will be in place by the end of 2024. L'importance croissante des questions sociales dans les stratégies d'investissement Alors que l'évolution vers des stratégies axées sur l'impact se poursuit, nous constatons que les investisseurs s'intéressent de plus en plus aux questions sociales. L'adoption croissante des évaluations de l'importance relative - où l'on tient compte à la fois de la matérialité financière et de la matérialité de l'impact - a entraîné une augmentation de la divulgation des sous-thèmes connexes par les entreprises et de leur évaluation ultérieure par les investisseurs. Comme nous l'avons indiqué notre dernière étude sur la divulgation ESG des composants de l'indice composé S&P/TSX, publiée le 11 octobre 2023, nous avons constaté que 19 % des évaluations de matérialité des composants utilisent actuellement une perspective de double matérialité.
