About us

MIYA Creative Care improves wellness outcomes by successfully integrating creative arts therapies into your organization’s care model. We build long-lasting care partnerships with organizations throughout Ontario including senior living homes, hospices, mental health organizations, and education centres. We provide services including music therapy, art therapy, and dance/movement therapy. We believe that every health and wellness organization should include creative arts therapies as an integral part of their care model to enrich the quality of life of the individuals they serve.

Today, we're excited to feature one of our special sessions: Q&A: Experiencing the Creative Arts with a Dementia Diagnosis. ✨ Ron Beleno, a leader in caregiving and co-chair of AGE-WELL's Older Adults and Caregiver Advisory Committee, will interview Granville Jackson, a Veteran, multimedia artist, musician, and dementia advocate, who has been living with Vascular Dementia since 2011. Granville will share his experiences with using art, storytelling and music as a way to express himself and navigate life with dementia. Today, we are featuring a special presentation, Dance for Dementia Care & Caregivers, by Eden Champagne. Eden, a PhD student at the University of Waterloo and Dance/Movement Therapist here at MCC, brings her wealth of knowledge in DMT and its profound impact on individuals with dementia and their caregivers.     We are so happy to welcome an incredible new team member to MIYA Creative Care! Taylor Kurta, MTA is an award-winning singer/songwriter, music therapist, and PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo in Aging, Health and Well-being. In 2013 Taylor received the honour as the inaugural winner of the Canada’s Walk of Fame/RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Program. From there, Taylor attended Wilfrid Laurier University where she obtained a bachelor’s in music therapy as the first non-classically trained musician admitted into the program. She then attended the University of Toronto for a master’s in music and health science. As an accredited music therapist since 2019, Taylor’s work has focused on using music as a way to support older adults in creative self-expression and social justice initiatives. Her doctoral research uses collaborative songwriting with people living with dementia as a tool to challenge stigma associated with dementia.     We are beyond thrilled to welcome Hayley Naunton to the MCC team! Hayley is a Certified Music Therapist and an Affiliate to the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. She graduated with her Bachelors of Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University. She has experience working with various populations across the lifespan. These include seniors and adults living in long-term care, and children and adolescents in community settings. She uses a variety of instruments in sessions to connect with clients including guitar, piano, violin, and voice. Creating space for clients to explore their unique relationship with music is at the core of Hayley’s practice.
