The #LabShortageCrisis is affecting healthcare in Ontario. Medical Laboratories are burnt out, understaffed, & underpaid. Without #MedLabs there are no test results for doctors to make critical medical decisions. Emergency rooms are backed up, nurses work longer on patients than needed, and quality healthcare decreases. Thank you for the opportunity to provide a glimpse in the dire shortage of Medical Laboratory Technologists, an area of healthcare that we may not see as they work behind closed doors. As the fourth largest healthcare profession, we may not be loudest but our work enables physicians and nurses to provide the care needed to diagnose and treat patients. Without lab tests health care can’t function. Action is needed now to address this HHR shortage. Testing turn around times are being affected. Please join us in recognizing the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) as the first province in Canada to regulate medical laboratory assistants and technicians under the Nova Scotia Medical Laboratory Technology Act.   This initiative is an important step to enhancing public safety, improving healthcare standards, and ensuring that these essential professionals are able to work within their full scope of practice.  This development is effective May 3, 2025.
