Congratulations to Cal Poly Racing and Formula Student Bizkaia on winning this year’s Multimatic Vehicle Dynamics Excellence Award! At Formula Electric in Michigan, Cal Poly Racing claimed the award for the second year in a row by leveraging their strong core competencies from their ICE program. They successfully integrated all subsystems into a cohesive package, becoming the first team to win the award at both an ICE and EV competition in FSAE. At Silverstone Circuit, FS Bizkaia impressed the design judges with their innovation and meticulous approach to design and validation, becoming the first-ever recipient of our award at IMechE Formula Student UK. In addition to the vehicle dynamics trophy, the team also took home top honors for the EV class and best EV powertrain. As an engineering-driven company with many FSAE and FSUK alumni on our team, it is truly gratifying to witness the incredible caliber of vehicle dynamic principles being applied at these competitions. We look forward to supporting and guiding the next generation of engineers in 2025!

The Vehicle Dynamics Excellence Award was introduced in 2018 by a group of Multimatic engineers who believe that mastery of vehicle dynamics is fundamental to designing and building winning race cars as well as high-performance production vehicles. The award recognizes FSAE and Formula Student teams that demonstrate an in-depth understanding and application of vehicle dynamics to: 1. Establish vehicle performance targets and associated system specifications. 2. Develop component designs to achieve targets. 3. Use data acquisition, dynamic simulation, and objective analysis to optimize vehicle dynamics performance. During the design finals phase of each competition, senior judges evaluate each team based on upfront simulation, component level design, as well as vehicle tuning and development. In addition to the trophy, the winner at each competition will also receive a complimentary set of bespoke Multimatic spool valve dampers. The teams will have the opportunity to spec, build, and test the dampers at one of our technical centers, as well as dial in their vehicle on our four-post rig with guidance from Multimatic engineers. We are proud to announce Multimatic has achieved ASPICE (Automotive Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination) Level 2 certification, an automotive industry standard for defining and assessing best practices for software development. To meet the certification requirements, we designed and implemented efficient processes and systems which enable us to consistently produce and deliver high quality output for our automotive customers. This framework strategically positions us to continue developing advanced electronic systems that drive innovations such as our Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve and TrueActive Spool Valve dampers, active aerodynamic systems, as well as power door closure solutions.

Last month, Multimatic returned to Silverstone Circuit to extend our support for the IMechE Formula Student competition. Our team of engineers participated in the design judging panel and provided guidance on the different exciting career paths in automotive engineering.   For 2024, we were thrilled to present the inaugural Multimatic Vehicle Dynamics Excellence Award to Formula Student Bizkaia. Their exceptional understanding and application of vehicle dynamics across simulation, component design, as well as vehicle tuning and development truly stood out and impressed the judges.   Congratulations to all our sponsored teams for their outstanding achievements at this year’s Formula Student competition! Up next on our 2024 calendar: Baja SAE Michigan in September.

Behind the scenes at the Ford GT Mk IV Top Gear shoot, where Jethro Bovingdon strapped in to have a go in the track-only hypercar at Calabogie Motorsport Park. The Ford GT Mk IV backs up its motorsport pedigree with a long list of cutting-edge hardware that includes a +800 hp 3.8L Ecoboost engine, Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve Dampers, an extreme aero package, racing sequential gearbox, and carbon-carbon brakes. What you don’t see on the spec sheet is the extensive design, engineering, and development work involved to ensure all systems work in sync to provide the driver with the confidence to fully explore the limits of the car. Through virtual and predictive engineering, the Mk IV leverages the vast amount of knowledge and data we collected from the Ford GT road car, Mk II, and Le Mans winning racing programs. According to Jethro, this all adds up to “one of the most exciting, all-enveloping and charismatic cars you'll ever see.” Check out his full video and written review of the Ford GT Mk IV on Top Gear! What better way to spend the weekend than with family and friends at the track? Multimatic employees and their guests were at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park to cheer on the Multimatic Motorsports team for their first homecoming race with the Ford Mustang GT3s. The team put on an exhilarating performance, energizing the home crowd with the thunderous roar of the Mustang’s powerful 5.4L V8 engine. The #64 car finished fourth place in the GTD PRO class, achieving the team’s best result yet while continuing to make positive progress and demonstrating strong pace. For many members of our staff, it was the first time seeing these incredible racing machines go wheel-to-wheel up close. It was also the perfect opportunity to showcase to their family and friends the collaborative ingenuity, passion, and drive that define Multimatic and everything that we do.

The track-focused Aston Martin Valiant made its dynamic debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso behind the wheel. The production vehicle will be fitted with Multimatic’s patented Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) Dampers, the system increases peak vehicle dynamics capabilities and widens the performance envelope by integrating electronically controlled stepper motors with tried-and-true spool valve technology. ASV Dampers adapt to driver input as well as changing conditions by continuously adjusting the dampers to deliver the desired handling characteristics and optimize performance both on the road and the track. #FOS #Multimatic #MultimaticASV #AstonMartin #Valiant
