Did you know that 47% of Canadian parents give their kids an allowance? 💰✨ Which means over half of Canadian families are opting out of an allowance altogether. But why? We partnered with Ipsos to talk to hundreds of Canadian parents about their views on giving their kids and teens an allowance. The result? Introducing the first of its kind, Mydoh's Canadian Allowance Report. It highlights the importance of how an allowance can teach kids about financial literacy. However, many parents are unsure about allowance best practices – from when to start an allowance, how kids should spend their allowance, to using it as a tool for discipline. In the Allowance Report, Accredited Financial Counsellor Jessica Moorhouse, AFCC® helps provide parents with actionable guidance on their allowance approach, which she calls “The ABCs of Allowance.” Download the Mydoh Canadian Allowance Report report here for further insights and allowance guidance: https://lnkd.in/g33MHeWC

Did you know that Financial Literacy Month is right around the corner? 💰🗓️ The theme this year is “Money on your Mind. Talk about it!” As a parent of two teenagers, our CEO, Angelique, shares personal reflections on how we can turn everyday moments, like allowance, into valuable lessons about money. See what our they had to say about preparing kids for financial independence during this time and beyond. #Mydoh #FinancialLiteracyforKids #MoneyTalk
As a parent of two teenagers, I often think about how we can prepare our kids for independence. How something like an allowance is more than just pocket money; it can be a powerful tool to teach the foundations of money management. Yet, it’s not always easy to turn these small, everyday moments into lessons that will stick with them for life. At Mydoh, we believe that early and often money experiences set the foundation for better outcomes. I’ve seen firsthand with my own kids how important it is to engage them in conversations about earning, saving, and spending. Financial Literacy Month is only a week away and it’s a great reminder for all of us to take these opportunities to make financial education a part of your family’s daily life. Our goal at Mydoh is to provide families with the tools to help their kids and teens gain real-world experience in managing money, setting goals, and making solid financial decisions. As November approaches, it’s a great time to get started in our commitment to have more conversations about money—because financial literacy isn’t a one-time lesson; it’s a journey. Our team recently came together to kick off FY25 with a blend of strategic planning and celebrations for all we’ve achieved this year. At Mydoh, our vision is to make banking more accessible so that the next generation can achieve their financial aspirations. Already, we have been able to help nearly 200,000 Canadians build a more solid financial foundation! We’re thrilled to have reached three major milestones: 💰 Went subscription free! That’s right—no more monthly fees, making Mydoh more accessible to families across Canada. 👋 Successfully launched in Quebec. We’re excited to help even more families teach financial literacy and empower their kids. 💸 Expanded our Money Movement features. Now, kids and teens can send, receive, and request money seamlessly, giving them more autonomy and flexibility in managing their finances. These milestones bring us closer to our mission of making financial literacy accessible to even more Canadian families. We can’t wait to see what’s next as we continue to evolve and support the next generation of money-smart kids! #FinancialLiteracy #FinTech #Mydoh #MoneyManagement #FamilyFinance

It’s World Mental Health Day, a day to spotlight mental health, reduce stigma and raise awareness of mental health issues. Mental health can affect many areas of a person’s life, including finances. When emotions run high, sometimes people turn to spending money to cope—including teens. Whether it’s splurging on a new outfit to fit in with friends, buying a game to shake off a bad day, a little “retail therapy” can provide an instant mood boost. While that initial rush is undeniably awesome, it’s important for teens to recognize when feelings, not needs, drive their purchases. Understanding the triggers of emotional spending and how to curb it can help teens handle their emotions in healthier ways. Did somebody say “Bonjour”? Mydoh is bringing family finance to Quebec. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve officially launched in Quebec, making financial literacy even more accessible to Canadian families. A recent survey revealed that 85% of Quebec parents find it challenging discussing certain aspects of money management to their children, and we’re here to help bridge that gap. With Mydoh, parents and kids work together to build healthy financial habits, using real-world experiences like setting savings goals and managing allowances – allowing parents to support their kids in learning about earning, saving, and spending (wisely 😉). This expansion supports our ongoing mission of empowering families to build healthy financial habits together. We’re excited to continue helping families across Canada in raising financially smart kids. Want to learn more?
