Payroll deserves to be recognized. According to the Institute’s recent study with Angus Reid, 75% of Canadians say their paycheque is their main motivation for working, yet 20 per cent don't know who handles payroll at their organization. The national payroll party is aiming to have the third Tuesday of September named a National Day to Recognize Payroll Professionals, and we need your help to get us there! By signing our petition, you can make a real difference. Use your voice to show that payroll professionals deserve to be recognized for the important work that they do. While signing the petition, feel free to explore our official National Payroll Week website to explore what this year’s campaign has to offer. Check the site often to see our campaign stops and all the adventures we have had this summer talking to Canadians about the importance of payroll. Take a look at our first stop, Ottawa! Payroll is the heart of business, so let’s raise our voices to elevate the payroll profession! https://bit.ly/46poOZf
About us
The National Payroll Institute has been representing employers’ payroll interests since 1978, through its mission of Payroll Compliance through Education and Advocacy and its values of Community, Professionalism and Authoritative Knowledge. Professional payroll administration is mission-critical because of the magnitude of the remuneration by employers and the breadth of the legislative compliance requirements. Canada's 1.5 million employers count on payroll professionals to annually pay $1.06 trillion in wages and taxable benefits, $364 billion in federal and provincial statutory remittances, and $180 billion in health and retirement benefits, all while complying with over 200 regulatory requirements. As the authoritative source of Canadian payroll knowledge, the Institute influences the operational, compliance and technology policies and processes of payroll service bureaus, software providers, hundreds of thousands of small, medium and large employers, as well as federal and provincial tax authorities. The Institute advocates on behalf of employers to federal and provincial governments, proactively influencing payroll-related legislation to enable all stakeholders to administer them in an efficient and effective manner. As the source of payroll education and advocacy, the Institute delivers certification, professional development programs, and products and services that enable payroll practitioners to enhance operations, meet new legislative requirements and utilize emerging technologies.

There are many ways to contribute to the payroll community, from becoming a mentor to encouraging others to become designated. For many members, volunteering has been the key to unlocking the community. If you want to get involved, one of the best ways is to contact your local Branch. They’re often recruiting new officers and always need willing members to help deliver exciting events and elevate the profession at the grassroots level. Giving back to the payroll community is a wonderful and rewarding way to get even more out of your National Payroll Institute membership.

National Payroll Week 2024 is coming! The Institute is excited to introduce the “national payroll party,” led by our Payroll Party Starter, Acroo the Owl! In the lead up to NPW, Acroo and the rest of the national payroll party are traveling to Canada’s biggest parties of the summer to chat with Canadians about the role that payroll plays in each of our lives. So far, we’ve been to Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary and Winnipeg, and we’re just getting started! Joining Acroo are our correspondents, Brittlestar (Stewart Reynolds), a notable Canadian internet personality, and his son, Gregor Reynolds, a social media influencer in his own right. We’re asking Canadians to sign a petition to name the third Tuesday in September a National Day to Recognize Payroll Professionals – and we urge you to raise your voice and join the movement! Look through our official website, share the video (https://bit.ly/3WpRqhr), sign the petition, and register for your local National Payroll Week celebration at npw.payroll.ca. Let’s elevate payroll together!

Has your organization signed the Declaration for Payroll yet? It’s one of the many campaigns the National Payroll Institute has launched to elevate the payroll profession. This particular program calls on business leaders to publicly declare that they will uphold eight core principles required for an employer to ensure payroll is delivered in a professional manner. After all, payroll is at the heart of every business. It not only ensures regulatory compliance, but it's the single most significant reason employees show up and do their best work, day after day. When you become a member of the Institute, you’re supporting meaningful campaigns that highlight how vital payroll is to the health of every business in Canada. We encourage you pay attention to campaigns like these and to take part by sharing them with your friends, family and colleagues to help us elevate the profession.
