About us
The Network for Business Sustainability (NBS) is dedicated to making business more sustainable. We do this by sharing evidence-based guidance for business leaders thinking ahead. More than 35,000 business leaders, researchers and students from around the world contribute to and follow our work. We also facilitate a community of 170+ sustainability research centres in business schools around the world. NBS's main office is at the Ivey Business School (Western University, London, Canada), with a francophone office at L’Université du Québec à Montréal (Montreal, Canada). While we are headquartered in Canada, it’s our global membership that drives our impact. Together, members of NBS envision a world in which business activity helps communities flourish within planetary boundaries. “Business as usual” is falling short of these ideals. New ways of thinking are needed to move beyond the status quo. That’s where our work comes in. Our members are knowledgeable in a range of business areas. For more than a decade, NBS has been creating space for these business leaders and researchers to exchange ideas and push each other’s thinking. We share their ideas through our podcasts, articles, reports and meetings. The result is a huge collection of quality content, mobilized worldwide. Investors face climate risk. Why? Because climate change impacts the companies in which they invest. Risks could include physical damage from a storm, or regulatory risk from mitigation policies that might affect companies’ profitability. So, how can investors manage their climate risk? They can seek to influence the companies they invest in. Investors can encourage companies to reduce their climate impacts (e.g., emissions), to decrease global climate risk. They can also encourage companies to adapt to decrease their susceptibility to impending climate impacts. But do investors really have sway on companies? They can – especially if they form investor coalitions. When multiple institutional investors join forces to advocate for company change, they improve their chances of success. But not all coalitions are made equal. Recent research has identified the factors which increase a coalition’s chance at successfully driving climate action. Read on to learn the secret sauce: https://lnkd.in/g8VrmBuG Research by: Kevin Chuah (D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University) and Jean-Pascal Gond (Bayes Business School) Rieneke Slager (University of Groningen), Santi Furnari (Bayes Business School), and Mikael Homanen (formerly at PRI). #climateaction #esg #shareholderadvocacy #investorcoalitions #sustainablebusiness #climate #investing

Have you seen an explosion of business approaches described as “regenerative?” The term is certainly becoming more common. But many leaders still aren’t clear on what regeneration looks like in practice. This case study provides a great example. The gist? When native fish disappeared in thousands of lakes across Finland, local fishers devised a regenerative business model to turn things around – ecologically and economically. Swipe through the graphic to learn how they did it. And, read the case study to find out how you can apply some of the fishers’ learnings to a regenerative project in your life! Find the case here: https://lnkd.in/g6aFmCct This case study is based on research by Oana Branzei (Ivey Business School at Western University) and Laura Albareda (LUT School of Business and Management). #regenerativebusiness #ecosystemrestoration #sustainablebusiness #sustainableinnovation
