In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the impact of residential schools, honour survivors and their families, and commit to the ongoing journey of reconciliation. The Alex and Marriott Hotels of Calgary invite you to explore the list of activities in the city that we've compiled for those who wish to participate. ▪️ Orange Shirt Day & Ceremony Date: Monday, Sept. 30 (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) Location: The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, 750 9 Ave. S.E. Details: Join for presentations from the Mayor, Indigenous Elders, and more. The event begins with a blessing from an Elder, followed by Indigenous dancers. ▪️ Pokaiks - The Children's Commemorative Walk Date: Monday, Sept. 30 (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) Location: Contemporary Calgary, 701 11 St S.W. Details: Participate in this annual walk and gathering, with indoor events and performances focused on children and youth. Free event, all are welcome. ▪️ National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Arts Commons Date: Monday, Sept. 30 Location: Arts Commons, 205 – 8 Ave. S.E. Details: Explore Indigenous art and culture through gallery tours, artist talks, and the Indigenous Makers Market. Features the Elders Story Project, sharing stories of resilience. ▪️ Michelle Good Presentation: Getting Under the Myth of Canadian History Date: Monday, Sept. 30 (12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) Location: Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Rozsa Centre, UCalgary Details: Michelle Good, Cree author and advocate, shares her insights in this special presentation. Hosted by Dr. Michael Hart, with remarks from UCalgary leadership

And with that, we say goodbye to September! 🎉 This month, the Calgary Next Gen Business Council hosted a Serve360 volunteer event at the Calgary Drop-In Centre, where Marriott Hotels came together to serve meals and spread kindness. We also united to celebrate love at the Calgary Pride Parade. 🏳️🌈 Huge thanks to everyone who participated! Stay tuned—we have exciting plans to end the year on a high note!

Volunteering is our way of contributing to a better, more compassionate community. Each act of service, with the support of Calgary associates, brings us closer to a brighter and more caring world. It all started when J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott opened their 9-seat A&W Root Beer stand in Washington, D.C., offering a cool respite from the summer heat.

Together for Jasper is a tourism industry initiative in Calgary to help direct fundraising activities to the Canadian Red Cross. From now, through the month of August, donations received by the Red Cross will be matched by both the Government of Alberta and the Federal Government.
