To commemorate International Women’s Day and Women in Construction Week, we wanted to celebrate the accomplishments of the talented women that work at Niik Steel. Meet Lauren Tomio, a passionate and talented welder, and one of the newest members of our team. Lauren began her career in 2018, enrolling as a student in the Welding program at VIU. Lauren hopes that her experience inspires other young women to pursue a career in construction and the trades. When asked what she finds most rewarding about welding, here's what she says: “Besides the welding I really love fitting—Building a building is like a giant puzzle, and it’s so cool to see how everything fits together. Out of everything though, the most rewarding part about being a welder is when people begin to live, work, learn, and play in the buildings that you’ve built. The satisfaction that you get from seeing your contributions impacting your community in a positive way is second to none." #IWD #innovativefabrication #womeninconstructionweek

👷 Hands-on Learning at Niik Steel! 👷 Over the last few weekends our team has been working with students from the UBC Steel Bridge Team to fabricate their updated design for the 2025 competition! It was a great opportunity for our welders to showcase their skills, and for the student cohort to gain some valuable hands-on shop experience. ✨ We're proud to be the Title Sponsor of the UBC Steel Bridge Team for the 2025 season!
