We were delighted last week to connect with some of the amazing companies being supported by the Ontario Brain Institute under the NERVE award program. 🧠 From accessible #brain-controlled tech for neurodiverse children to microbial therapeutics for mental health, these entrepreneurs are advancing the #neurotech landscape in Canada as they work on development and #commercialization. We also had the pleasure of meeting the esteemed Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, The University of British Columbia’s 17th President and Vice-Chancellor. UBC’s FORWARD mission to continue leading in global #impact, #health and climate action will no doubt benefit from Dr. Bacon’s background as a neuropsychologist. October 10 being World Mental Health Day, this year’s focus on the workplace is especially meaningful at Noetic. Each of us has had deeply personal experiences with mental health challenges, from seeing close family members struggle to seeking care for ourselves. While vulnerable, we are privileged to have a team that feels safe in sharing with one another, at the same time bringing us closer together in our mission to support new solutions for people in need. By sharing, we lighten the load and remind ourselves that we are not alone – health being the domain of not just the individual, but also family, friends, the workplace, school, and the wider community. We hope for a future where we recognize mental health as an indivisible part of overall health, so that we can truly support whole human wellness. #WMHD2024 #WorldMentalHealthDay #mentalhealth

"Education got us into this mess, and education can get us out of it.” The Noetic team heard these thought-provoking words spoken by Ms. Tanya Talaga in Toronto last week, in a moving talk to celebrate the launch of her new book, The Knowing. This powerful work weaves family history with the challenging history of Indigenous communities across Canada, detailing families broken and lives lost under government policies of forced assimilation. Today of all days, our team is striving to support the path to healing – September 30 being our national day for Truth & Reconciliation to honour those affected by the national residential school system. The intergenerational trauma caused by this system continues to ripple through Indigenous communities today, manifesting in disproportionately high rates of mental illness and substance use disorder. From furthering dialogue with Indigenous leaders to exploring how active investment may help drive sustainable community regeneration, we at Noetic are here to listen, learn and take action together.
