About us
The Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO) is the leading professional organization representing over 2,000 optometrists in Ontario for over 100 years. We are dedicated to helping our members provide the highest standard of eye health and vision care for Ontarians while driving the profession of optometry forward at the government, regulatory and public levels. We work to increase awareness and understanding of the role that optometrists play in ensuring the health of patients. OAO is the designated representative for optometry and meets with the provincial government on its members’ behalf concerning OHIP coverage, optometric billing codes and procedures, and other services. OAO monitors provincial legislation and works to ensure that the government considers the needs and concerns of optometrists and the communities they serve. The Association offers a wide range of benefits and services to its members, including: - Best-in-class group insurance plans - Preferred pricing on its annual Symposium and InfoMart - Free continuing education courses - Inclusion in province-wide public education and marketing campaigns - Regular newsletters to stay up-to-date on any regulatory changes affecting the profession - A say in which issues are advocated for at the government level Vision: Success in practice at the forefront of eye care for all Ontario optometrists. Mission: To position optometrists as the primary eye health and vision care professionals in Ontario. Are you an OAO member? Sand in your eyes 👀😣 can ruin a fun beach day! If it happens, don’t rub your eyes. Blink to let your tears flush out the sand. Use eye wash or saline solution if needed. If the irritation persists, visit your #Optometrist so that they can help you remove foreign particles without damaging your eyes. Enjoy the beach safely! 🏖️😎 Learn more about summer eye protection on our blog: https://bit.ly/3VkhTfM . #BeachSafety #EyeCare #SummerFun

Heading out in the summer sun? 😎🔆 While sunglasses should be worn year-round outdoors for eye protection, the summer months are especially important as the Ultraviolet (UV) light index climbs. To make sure that your sunglasses provide the best UV protection, look for labels that say “100% UVA and UVB” or “UV 400.” These will absorb harmful rays and protect your eyes and skin. Need prescription lenses? Consult your Optometrist for prescription sunglasses to ensure both clarity & protection!
