The OWA was in attendance today as the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), accompanied by the Ministry of Energy and Electrification | Énergie et de l’Électrification, announced its new annual forecast, which reveals that Ontario's electricity demand is expected to grow by 75% by 2050 - higher than previously anticipated. This forecast highlights the critical need for reliable energy sources to power our growing economy and meet future demands. Made-in-Ontario waterpower is a long-lasting solution to address our province’s energy needs both now and into the future. With over three dozen facilities operating continuously for more than a century, waterpower has a proven legacy of delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy. Investing in both new and existing facilities will not only secure Ontario’s energy future but investments will stay in the province—supporting local jobs, communities, and fostering economic growth. The OWA is proud to celebrate #GlobalHydropowerDay with the International Hydropower Association (IHA). In Ontario, #waterpower is the backbone of our energy system, accounting for about 24% of the province’s energy supply and 76% of its renewable energy supply. This means affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for communities throughout the province. ⬇ Watch the video message below from us and others in the industry, highlighting the significance of this day and why it deserves to be celebrated!
