On #IndigenousVeteransDay, we honor the contributions and sacrifices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans who have courageously served to protect rights and freedoms in Canada. Today, we remember those who lost their lives and those whose lives were forever changed.

The OWA is thrilled to release our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan titled “Accelerating Ontario’s Electrification”. This is an unprecedented time in Ontario’s electricity sector to advance waterpower as a solution to our emergent and enduring energy needs and decarbonization goals. Our plan charts the direction the OWA will take over the next three years to accelerate opportunities for our members to build what we need and sustain what we have in the communities where they invest. We look forward, with the support of the membership, to putting this plan into action and working together to leave a powerful legacy that we are all proud of. ➡ Dive into our Strategic Plan here: https://bit.ly/4hyUaBR #Waterpower #RenewableEnergy #Hydropower #StrategicPlan

The 2024 First Nations Energy Symposium is underway and we are excited to sponsor and attend the event. Waterpower has been at the forefront of partnerships with Indigenous communities. There are more than a dozen successful equity partnerships in waterpower projects with Indigenous communities – a track record that can be leveraged in realizing Ontario’s untapped potential. We look forward to insightful discussions and collaborations over the next two days. #Waterpower #RenewableEnergy #Hydropower

The OWA is a proud sponsor of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)'s First Nations Energy Symposium. We thank the IESO for organizing this important event and look forward to the insightful discussions and valuable perspectives from First Nations leaders and community members. #Waterpower #RenewableEnergy #Hydropower
The 8th annual IESO First Nations Energy Symposium kicks-off today. This event brings together First Nations leaders and community members from across Ontario for two days of discussion, collaboration and cultural celebration. Demand for electricity in Ontario is rapidly increasing due to economic and population growth. There is a growing need to build-out the electricity system bigger and faster than ever before. First Nations play an essential role in this work as project leaders and rights-holders, providing the skills and expertise required to ensure major energy projects create local economic opportunities, protect cultural spaces and benefit future generations. The IESO looks forward to hearing from First Nations communities over the next two days on the steps that need to be taken to ensure the energy transition is fair, equitable and honours the spirit of economic reconciliation. Thank you to this year’s sponsors: CIBC | Bruce Power | Five Nations Energy Inc. | Alectra | Hydro One | Nuclear Waste Management Organization | Ontario Energy Board | Ontario Power Generation | Bullfrog Power | Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL) | Enbridge | Ontario Waterpower Association
