I recently had the opportunity to bring together many of Ontario Northland’s team (and some guests) who are working on the #Northlander passenger rail program. We discussed program milestones to date, next steps and overall planning and launch considerations. It was a great opportunity for team building, in-person connection and to share and discuss the vision for the New Era of the Northlander. My personal favourite agenda item was handing out game balls! This was a fun and important part of the day where we took some time to recognize team members who have gone above and beyond to date in order to deliver the Northlander team a WIN! Attending the AMO conference is always a highlight for me. This year, the Ontario Northland booth was busy with activity, and it was a pleasure to have Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister Victor Fedeli, Minister Graydon Smith, Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont, and Parliamentary Assistant John Yakabuski stop by. Bill Torbett has been with Ontario Northland since September of 2016. He was hired as a Production Worker and is now a Metal Fabrication Work Cell Leader in the Diesel Shop, where he and his team do all the work on Locomotive Engines. “I am thankful to be working at Ontario Northland and I have lots of support from our team in the shops and from our management. At Ontario Northland we are committed to ensuring all employees have a safe working environment. One way we achieve that goal is through regular workplace assessments, including our bi-annual Safety Walkabout. During our first Safety Walkabout of 2024, more than 70 participants engaged with employees. Employees were encouraged to share ideas and ask questions related to health and safety. Group members have prepared a summary report capturing important information and ideas on how to continue to enhance health and safety at each of our work locations. Safety is a team effort and employee feedback is invaluable to identify and address safety hazards. Thank you to all the participants of the most recent Walkabout; collaborative efforts lead to a safer workplace. -- Chez Ontario Northland, nous sommes résolus à voir à ce que tous les membres du personnel bénéficient d’un environnement de travail sécuritaire. L’un des moyens d’atteindre cet objectif est de procéder à des évaluations régulières des lieux de travail, notamment par le biais des promenades pour la sécurité, lesquelles sont réalisées deux fois par an. Lors de notre première promenade pour la sécurité de 2024, plus de 70 personnes participantes ont échangé avec les membres du personnel. On a invité les membres du personnel à faire part de leurs idées et à poser des questions sur la santé et la sécurité. Les membres du groupe ont préparé un rapport de synthèse contenant des idées et des renseignements importants sur la manière de continuer à améliorer la santé et la sécurité sur chacun de nos lieux de travail. La sécurité relève d’une démarche d’équipe et la rétroaction des membres du personnel est très précieuse au moment de relever les risques pour la sécurité et de les atténuer. Merci à toutes les personnes qui ont pris part à l’édition la plus récente des promenades pour la sécurité; les efforts de collaboration mènent à un lieu de travail plus sûr.
