As part of our work to stay on top of local labour market information and share with employers, an article 'Major Updates: Canada LMIA Work Permit Processing Stopeed Oct 2024, Key Changes Explained' by Amitverain of Femmes et Villes caught our attention this past week. The article delves into the changes announced August 26, 2024 and implemented on September 26, 2024. The goal - reduce reliance on foreign labour and prioritize Canadian works in metropolitan areas where unemployment rates exceed 6 percent. Therefore, it is essential for any employeres navigating the LMIA process to understand these new regulations: - * Suspension of LMIAs in High-Unemployment Area * Cap on Foreign Workers Reduced to 10 percent * Reduction in Employment Duration for Low-Wage Workers These changes it appears are in addition to previous changes to address LMIA fraud, such as increased LMIA fees and enhanced oversight and monitoring. To learn more the latest Government of Canada new release in regards to the Temporary Foreign Worker program can be found here, https://lnkd.in/eHv8rNKa, and Amitverain's article here, https://lnkd.in/g-2PTPbx . #HR #Recruitment #HRPlanning #Rentention #TemporaryForeignWorker #Immigration #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity #Accessibility

Staff had a great time connecting with employers and community partners at this week's enhanced 'Immigration 101 Information Session + Resource Fair' hosted by Hariana Brooks and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada. The conversations were very fruitful and a reminder of challenges of employers, especially in some particular industries, experience or will experience in finding talent once they have exhausted finding local talent that meets their needs or who can be hired for their soft skills, what they can contribute, and how they can develop the skills needed. Immigration and automation are options; however, ... The day of finding the perfect candidate is coming to an end and adjusting to Nova Scotia's shifting labour market is going to take openness to new approaches and ideas when it comes to recruitment and retention, building connections and relationships with as many organizations as possible, re-branding / re-framing minimum wage jobs increasingly referred to as low paying jobs, and more. Possible Solution: - Nova Scotia Works and community partners work with job seekers actively looking for work on a daily basis. We help connect people to jobs and jobs to people. www.novascotiaworks.ca www.opportunityplace.ca #HR #Recruitment #Retention #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity #Accessibility

As Gender Equity Week 2024 comes to close, the following information on the gender pay gap in Canada is worth sharing. #HR #LMI #LabourMarketInformation #Recruitment #Retention #IDEA #DEI
Did you know that the gender pay gap is a persisting issue which mostly impacts those who face multiple barriers, including racialized women, Indigenous women, and women with disabilities? According to a 2024 study from the OECD, there is a 17.1% difference between the annual median income of women and men. For self-employed people, it rises to 28%. There is still a lot of work to be done to achieve gender equality. For more information on the gender pay gap in Canada, visit https://ow.ly/shbQ50TfvyT

Did you know effective August 1, 2024 that new updates to Nova Scotia's first aid requirements must be followed, as per the "Workplace First Aid Guide Abbendum"? According to Employer Advisor NS, who shared the above, "key changes include an introduction of first aid refresher training, allowing recertification through demonstrated competency instead of full retraining, and updates to first aid kit contents, with personal kits now requiring an emergency blanket and antibiotic ointment no longer being mandatory for all kit types."
