This afternoon, we wrapped up the CNLO Nuclear Law School two-day event with a thought-provoking keynote by Pierre Tremblay from the CNSC, who left us with valuable insights on the future of the nuclear industry. The afternoon panels, covering topics from Impact Assessment to Waste Storage and Decommissioning, were equally engaging and provided a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead. A huge thank you to the CNLO event organizers, Evguenia Prokopieva, Magda Hanebach, Ayesha Madura, Rachel Roberts, Erica Rodrigues, Lauren Lowns, and Christine Luza, for their hard work in making this event a success. We also want to extend our gratitude to all the panelists and, most importantly, to everyone who attended. We look forward to hosting more impactful events in the future!

  • OCNI's Brian Fehrenbach was pleased to join Bruce Power today at The Empire Club of Canada's Energy Series, where Ontario's Minister of Energy and Electrification, Honourable Stephen Lecce, delivered an inspiring keynote on the province's bold vision for a clean and affordable energy future. The Ontario government's announcement emphasized a commitment to meet rising energy demand with a focus on affordability, energy efficiency, and sustainability. From the largest nuclear refurbishment and expansion in North America to the construction of the first Small Modular Reactor in the G7, Ontario is leading the way in nuclear innovation. Ontario's dedication to clean energy solidifies its position as a global leader, and OCNI looks forward to leading Canada's supply chain on these opportunities in Ontario, across the country, and worldwide. • WiN Day Three Take-Aways   The highlight of day three at the Women in Nuclear Canada conference was the Reconciliation in Action workshop facilitated by Elder Billie Schibler, Elder Diane Longboat, Elder Donna Augustine, and Rebekah Wilson. The workshop highlighted the Treaty of Niagara and asked important questions: Who are you? What is your relationship to this place? Where do your ancestors come from? Systems change can be facilitated through accountability and taking action in hiring and training Indigenous peoples.   Insights about building meaningful relationships and essential things to remember include: relationships take TIME, relationships require TRUST, relationships must be built upon mutual RESPECT, and relationships thrive on RECIPROCITY.   Ways to put your reconciliation journey into action are: EXPLORE the unique intersections that Indigenous peoples have between Treaty, Constitutional, Indigenous, and human rights in Canada; TAKE ACTION to address historical injustices and present-day wrongs; RECOGNIZE the rich contributions that Indigenous peoples have made to Canada.   Leadership through relationship building is an important step in advancing reconciliation. Thank you to everyone who made this year's WiN Canada conference unforgettable! We gained valuable insights, celebrated inspiring leaders, and made lasting connections that will help shape the future of the nuclear industry. We look forward to continuing the work inspired by this event!

  • Day 2 Women in Nuclear Canada Conference   Lisa McBride, started the day by acknowledging the importance of reconciliation and shared a traditional Indigenous story about why some trees are always green.   Elder Billie Schibler, Elder Diane Longboat, and Elder Donna Augustine provided an opening prayer to acknowledge their ancestors and asked us to honour our ancestors.   The “Powering Progress: People Powering the Future” panel emphasized the need to promote the nuclear industry to girls and women across all education levels and foster collaboration to welcome women into trades. The “Isotopes and Innovation” break-out session featured three presentations: addressing workforce demands in clean energy through school co-op placements, OPG’s role in supplying carbon 14 during a global shortage, and the critical role of isotope innovation in cancer treatment advancements. Yesterday evening featured a riveting keynote by Jennifer Botterill, a 4-time Olympic medalist in women’s hockey, host for Hockey Night in Canada, and Harvard graduate. An awards gala followed to recognize women’s leadership in the nuclear industry. The evening concluded with a dance party to celebrate women’s achievements!
