🎉 We are excited to announce that OrKidstra’s Co-Founder and Artistic Managing Director, Tina Fedeski, has received further deserving recognition! 🎶 Ms. Tina, or soon-to-be Dr. Tina, will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree on November 9th at Carleton University's convocation! This honour celebrates her incredible journey—from studying at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and performing as principal flute with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Ottawa’s leading orchestras to her visionary leadership and dedication to empowering youth through music at OrKidstra. Throughout her lifetime, Tina has dedicated herself to showing how music can inspire, unite, and transform lives. Through OrKidstra, since 2007, Tina has helped to transform the lives of over 4,000 Ottawa children and youth from equity-deserving communities, while building transformational relationships within the community to help nurture a lasting culture of Love, Courage, Excellence, and Belonging. 🎃 Embracing the spooky season, OrKidstra students at our Centre Hub came together to present our very first Halloween-themed concert, delighting their peers and families with a playful lineup of Halloween-inspired music. And now, we want to share some of it with you! 🎶👻 Featuring performances by our Beginner and Intermediate KidPlayers (Winds), Junior KidStringers, and Senior KidPlayers (Winds) led by our amazing Teaching Artists – plus glimpses of some frightfully fun costumes – this "Spook-tacular Concert" is bound to make you smile and spark your Halloween spirit. 🧛♂️✨ 🎥 Enjoy the video and have a safe and spooky #Halloween! 🕸️🍬

🎶 Last Wednesday marked the first day of full-year programming at OrKidstra's new Heron Gate Hub! 🎉 After launching a successful 8-week pilot program last April, we’re thrilled to be back for the entire 2024-25 season. Over 70 students are now enrolled in KiddlyWinks, KidSingers, and KidStarters, bringing music and joy to the Heron Gate neighborhood every Monday and Wednesday. 🎻🎤 It was magical to see so many new faces singing and playing together. We can’t wait to share their musical journey with you throughout the year! 💫 Special thanks to the Ottawa Community Foundation for supporting this initiative, helping us to expand our welcome at our Heron Gate Hub. 💜

What started with 27 kids has now grown to over 700 children and youth, all sharing in the joy and challenges of music-making together! 🎻🎺 Today, we celebrate our journey and the incredible community that made it all possible. It’s "Honk, Blow, n' Screech" day at OrKidstra's Vanier Hub! 🎺🎻🎷🎶 This week, our beginner Vanier Hub instrumental students began exploring a variety of instruments, with the guidance of our amazing Teaching Artists, all in search of their perfect musical match. The halls were filled with giggles and pure joy as the kids discovered the sounds they love—and sometimes, like Leila, they just love the the way an instrument "tickles" their mouth, making it extra fun! Watching these young learners step into the world of music with such excitement and curiosity is truly special. We can't wait to support them every step of the way as they grow through making music together. 💜 #MusicEducation #Sistema #MusicMatters
