About us
Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) believes art and culture are essential parts of belonging and are the building blocks for the society we want. Art is a means by which we come together to celebrate the shared experiences that add texture and inspiration to the everyday. We believe that regional art and artists offer us a unique vision of our society. Though grounded within a specific geography, these play an essential role in addressing and helping us to better understand the complex, global challenges of our time. Our exhibitions present regional art within a national and international context, and our programs reach patrons and participants from toddlers to seniors. OAG also “holds space” for the community and we strongly believe in interdisciplinary collaborations and partnership as a means of achieving this accessible place. OAG tells the story of our community’s evolution through art and helps to create a positive vision for our city’s future. As a cultural anchor in the downtown core, we are a sustainable and innovative institution that is a positive economic contributor to the City of Ottawa and we hold a world-class collection of art for the people of the region. At OAG, you can expect to experience: ~ A welcoming and affordable engagement with art; ~ An inspiring cultural destination that you will want to share with friends and family; ~ A shared sense of pride in the cultural contributions of artists from the Ottawa-Gatineau region. OAG is a not-for-profit, charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Since its founding in 1988, OAG has built a significant permanent collection that now numbers more than 1,020 works including paintings, sculpture, graphic arts, photographs and new media. Donor support helps OAG preserve its fundamental vision and mandate – to be the most vital visual arts institution in the Ottawa region through our FREE admission, public programs, arts leadership, collections, and exhibitions. Ottawa Art Gallery | Galerie d'art d'Ottawa reposted this
Now that’s a gallery wall! Earlier this year, Ottawa Art Gallery | Galerie d'art d'Ottawa Board Chair Mark Schaan was a guest in the TD Suite at Canadian Tire Centre as part of a group of community partners we were hosting for a concert. Before the headliner took to the stage, he looked at the empty wall in the suite and said “you really need some art in here.” Rather than purchase random pieces, we decided to feature a rotating collection of works from the OAG’s Gallerie Annexe, which promotes artists from the Ottawa-Gatineau region through the exhibition, sale and rental of their artwork. Thanks Mark for the inspiration, and thanks to the OAG for the work you do in the community. We’re proud to be a part of it, and to showcase the work of local artists in this way. https://lnkd.in/eisPqRDG
