Day 4 of our ‘Four Days of For Vancouver’! Today, we examine Parq’s Indigenous strategy to make our city better. Guided by the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #92, which is directed at Canada's corporate sector, Parq is committed to meaningful actions that engage with Indigenous communities, respect the history and culture of Indigenous Peoples, and advance the journey of reconciliation. Created in 2024, our Indigenous strategy centres on four key actions: 1. Increase efforts to hire and retain Indigenous employees. 2. Continue educating staff in Indigenous awareness and understanding. 3. Ally with local Indigenous communities through social and business collaborations. 4. Support the reconciliation journeys of key social and governance partners. To date, our efforts to realize these actions have included presentations from the Indigenous Residential School Survivors' Society (IRSSS), fundraising support for Musqueam Nation, learnings from the reconciliation efforts of BCLC and St. Paul's Foundation, and investigation into employment agencies that will improve access to a wider Indigenous candidate pool. Additionally, we have embedded Indigenous acknowledgement in our website, email signatures and in the meeting introductions for the Player Health and For Vancouver Committees. For the remainder of 2024, and into the new year and beyond, we will continue working to build on this early progress.

Day 3 of our ‘Four Days of For Vancouver’! Today, we spotlight Parq’s continuous improvement and innovation in player health. Since opening our doors in 2017, we've delivered player health programming that sets the BC industry standard, reflecting best practices and extending across our entire organization. Through staff training, policy development, stakeholder engagement, employee recognition, internal and external communications... every element of our approach is designed to ensure a safer experience for our players and a sustainable bottom line for the long-term. Parq has also formed invaluable working relationships with industry, academia and government to deliver player health excellence. We support BCLC and their social purpose goal of generating win-wins for the greater good. GameSense is integral to our culture and a vital complementary resource for all on the casino floor. City of Vancouver drives us to constantly raise the bar in serving our local player community. We are privileged to assist the UBC Centre for Gambling Research in their mission to advance the understanding of gambling psychology and reduce associated harm. Our player health efforts saw us assessed by the Responsible Gambling Council as having the best player health culture in Canada in 2023. But the work is never done. In 2025 and beyond, we'll continue to seek ways to make the player experience better and, in doing so, make Vancouver better.

Welcome to Day 2 of our ‘Four Days of For Vancouver’! Today, we take a closer look at Parq’s ongoing social assistance to make our city better. Parq is humbled to support local charities, non-profits and groups working tirelessly to improve Vancouver for its people. Since opening in 2017, Parq has striven to be a force for good in our backyard contributing donations, gifts, facilities, volunteer time and recyclables, the total of which measures in the millions of dollars. Of particular focus in our program is the Downtown Eastside and Chinatown. Providing assistance to valued community partners such as the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre and the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, Parq has helped improve the physical circumstances and mental health of many at-risk individuals in those communities. Whether it’s funding thousands of Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, or donating countless items of needed clothing, or giving a financial helping-hand to the next generation of Vancouver first responders, Parq is committed to being the best neighbour possible for our local area. The scope of our social programming also speaks to how much we value diversity, equity and inclusion. Over a quarter of our staff are drawn from Vancouver and more than 15% of our goods and services are purchased from local vendors. We work with organizations that span the spectrum of marginalization – Dr Peter Centre, Indian Residential School Survivors’ Society, Can WIN, Mosaic, and the Veterans’ Transition Network, to name a few. We are proud to foster relationships in our own backyard that are deeply committed to making a positive difference. Parq’s commitment to social good – it’s one of the key pillars in our strategy to make Vancouver better!

Welcome to Day 1 of our ‘Four Days of For Vancouver’! On this first day, we explore Parq’s ongoing environmental efforts to make our city better. In recent years, Parq has sought to be an instrument of environmental good in numerous ways. First and foremost is our physical home. Designed and constructed to LEED Gold standards, our distinctive building features a long checklist of sustainability positives including the use of indigenous Douglas Fir trees and North Shore rock, access to nature, green mobility, rainwater management, zero waste planning, and low carbon energy supply. Regarding operations, Parq has instituted a wide variety of environmental initiatives to benefit the planet. From partnering with St. Paul’s Foundation to repurpose thousands of linen items, to donating leftover food from our restaurants, to sourcing Ocean Wise seafood, to ensuring eco-friendly waste management in our break rooms, to supporting green community projects such as YWCA’s rooftop garden, to providing 23 EV charging stations and 54 bicycle racks, Parq is proud to be a key contributor to Vancouver’s sustainable future. Last, but far from least, is the parkland we are famous for. Populated with over 200 native pines and 15,000 local plants, the park is not just a tranquil escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, it is an urban game-changer, removing around 6,400 pounds of CO2 from the local atmosphere every year.  Parq’s commitment to the environment – it’s one of the key pillars in our strategy to make Vancouver better!
