We were thrilled to welcome members of the Thomas Haney Secondary School robotics team to Shop XL yesterday for a hands-on learning experience! The visit featured a 3D printing demonstration, where we built a mock-up they designed, a BIM discussion to help them shape their robot for next year’s competition, and a close-up look at our AI Welding Robot from Novarc Technologies Inc. Eamonn Bermingham P.Eng a Principal at TD Systems Ltd, a Maple Ridge-based mechanical design company, also shared advice on mechanical engineering and design. The students also toured our state-of-the-art fabrication facility to see how technology can reshape the construction industry.   To support their efforts, we also donated $3,000 toward their competition funds because we believe in empowering young minds to push boundaries. This event marks the first in our Future of Work mini-series, aimed at inspiring the next generation and sharing the possibilities within our industry. We look forward to more opportunities to engage with students and build a future where innovation leads the way. "Our industry is rapidly evolving, and we’re excited to introduce these students to the technologies driving the future of construction. We love investing in our local community, and inspiring students is imperative to building a brighter future for our industry. We understand that schools often don’t have the resources to invest in the latest technology, which could give students a competitive edge. At Pitt Meadows Plumbing, we’ve made it a priority to invest in these innovations, going beyond what most companies and schools might consider.” - Steve Robinson, President, Pitt Meadows Plumbing Special thanks to Brandon Tucker from Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News for the article: https://lnkd.in/gf6FXG8e #Robotics #ConTech #NextGeneration #FutureofWork #STEMEducation

For nearly a decade, we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Crosstown Metal, most notably the King George Hub series of towers. Our partnership began with Phase B, and since then, Crosstown’s dedication and craftsmanship have been instrumental in completing over 1,000 residential units so far, with the entire phased project set to deliver 2,400 units.   At Pitt Meadows Plumbing & Mechanical Systems, we believe in the value of strong partnerships and fair competition. As a mechanical contractor, we collaborate with various subtrades across our projects, and we’ve especially appreciated our work with sheet metal companies like Crosstown. While we work with many different partners, our choice is always guided by integrity and the quality of the work. Crosstown has consistently delivered on both fronts, helping us bring significant projects like the King George Hub towers to life. Their commitment to excellence mirrors our own, and we’re proud to continue building together.    Crosstown Metal is a family-owned company with over 50 years of experience. They offer not just top-notch work, but also a workplace where safety, opportunity, and a strong sense of community are paramount. We’re proud to highlight the team at Crosstown and look forward to continuing this successful partnership. This week marked a first for us—we brought a full pump skid to an event, not a construction site. Displayed at the ICBA | Independent Contractors and Businesses Association Construction Summit, this skid, assembled with our partners Western Pacific Enterprises LTD, Houle Controls, Steel Wings Industrial Limited, and Graham, was customized to fit inside a freight elevator. Its removable top can be adjusted back to the correct height for use on-site, showcasing the adaptability and innovation behind our work. We were also thrilled to have our Director of Industrialized Construction, Sam Revel introduce author Jason Schroeder, whose book Elevating Pre-Construction Planning will be used as a great resource for our team. Our President recently ordered the book, and it was great to connect with Jason in person. While there were challenges in bringing this large piece to Parq Vancouver for the event, we were proud to be Platinum Sponsors and want to thank the ICBA for another great summit. Special thanks to Sanjeev Dhillon for encouraging us to consider bringing some mechanical art to the event! #FabricationFriday #IndustrializedConstruction #Collaboration #ICBASummit

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of Phase 1B of the Royal Inland Hospital renovation, which included the complete replacement of an 18,000 sq ft emergency room. This phase presented significant challenges, including the installation of large ductwork atop seismically engineered structural steel bracing and an elevated mechanical room.   Our BIM and Prefabrication teams provided critical support in designing and prefabricating the mechanical systems, helping to streamline installation and meet the project’s tight schedule. Their efforts, combined with the outstanding work of our on-site team, ensured we successfully navigated the space constraints and complex requirements.   Thanks to the dedication and expertise of the entire team, the project received occupancy on schedule on Friday, September 27th.   Project Manager Matthew Bulmer reflected on the project’s success: "Our team functioned really well. We formed specialized project teams to focus on different aspects since this was a multi-phase job happening concurrently. This part of the project was the largest and most challenging, but our team communicated well and executed even better."   The success of this phase is a testament to the incredible collaboration and problem-solving efforts across the entire Pitt Meadows Plumbing team, as well as our valued partners: EllisDon, Trident Manufacturing & Sheet Metal Ltd, and Aarc-West Mechanical Insulation. #Construction #MechanicalContractor #TeamBuild #InfrastructureProjects

Today we are stepping away from our usual #FabricationFriday to recognize the importance of Truth and Reconciliation Day & Orange Shirt Day on September 30th. Please note our office and project locations will be closed on Monday. It’s a day to reflect on the history of residential schools, honour the survivors, and take steps toward reconciliation. Our Shop XL is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations, and we are committed to recognizing and respecting their ongoing relationship with this land. We encourage everyone to wear an orange shirt in solidarity and to engage in meaningful learning opportunities—there are many ways to get involved and support the journey toward reconciliation. For a list of events taking place in BC and for more information about Truth & Reconciliation please visit: https://buff.ly/47KrXmN This is a day for all of us to listen, learn, and reflect. If you’ve found a resource that’s helped you on this journey, feel free to share it with us in the comments. #TruthAndReconciliationDay #EveryChildMatters #OrangeShirtDay #Reconciliation #IndigenousAwareness

Last night, we had the privilege of hosting the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce’s All Candidates Debate at our shop, where community members gathered to hear from Conservative Party of British Columbia Candidate Michael Morden and BC NDP MLA Lisa Beare. As a non-partisan company, we believe that supporting opportunities for open dialogue and encouraging our community to engage in the political process is vital for the future of British Columbia. We are always open to collaborating with multiple levels of government to advocate for change, especially in our industry. With the Provincial Election coming up on October 19th, we want to remind everyone in our community and across the province to make their voices heard—your vote matters. #BCPoli #Construction #SkilledTrades #BCElection #CommunityInvolvement #MapleRidge #PittMeadows

Golf is all about precision, patience, and—most importantly—teamwork, just like what we work hard to bring to every project. This past Sunday, our team hit the greens at Golden Eagle Golf Club for a 4BBB tournament that was equal parts friendly competition and team bonding. Our top three teams were: 1st: Shop XL 2nd: Evergreen Sheet Metal 3rd: Gilmore Place Special shoutout to Keith, who managed to snap the one photo from the day (thanks, Keith!). And of course, a big thank you to our sponsors: Marks Commercial Maple Ridge & Abbotsford, Milwaukee Tool Canada, HNT Tools, Noble BC Port Kells, and FBM Tool, who helped make this event possible. At the end of the day, it wasn’t just about who won, but about strengthening the connections that help us succeed on and off the course.
