“Researchers are building a virtual reality world to help people overcome their cocaine addiction by repeatedly exposing them to tempting scenarios in a safe environment. The project draws on the experiences of drug users to create tailored 3D experiences, such as being alone in a flat or at a party with friends, where people can be immersed via a VR headset in realistic situations that trigger the urge to take drugs.” https://lnkd.in/e3D3AYrn #mentalhealth #vr #virtualreality #addiction

Indigenous Peoples Day is more than just a celebration. ⚡It is a testament to our resistance globally and the strength of our prayers. It’s a flame that rises against the winds of colonial violence, rooted in the songs, dances, and stories of those who came before us. Each laugh and each act of love rekindles that flame, shutting down every attempt to erase our existence. Our joy is not just for ourselves, but for the land and ancestors who walk with us. ⚡Grounded in a deep love for our people and our lands, our joy is an act of resistance. Despite everything that’s been taken from us, we hold onto our laughter, our ceremonies, and our ways of life. To center our joy is to reclaim what was stolen, to breathe life into what was meant to be lost, and to declare that we are still here and that we will not stop fighting for a world that we are deserving of for all people and Mother Earth. 🌎 ⚡Today these settler governments will honor a popular colonizer but we have chosen to reclaim the day and center ourselves and celebrate our existence as well as heal from our past and collectively create our future. 🪶 Happy Indigenous Peoples Day Relatives!Continue to spread that good medicine all around today and everyday! ♥️ #IPD #IPD2024 #LANDBACK #IndigenousPeoplesDay

"Julia Naedzo, the facility coordinator at the Behchokǫ̀ home, said many of the elders don't remember using the headset days after the fact but that it makes them happy when they do. She says it also helps that the VR is in the Tłı̨chǫ language. "I think it takes them back to when they were kids. And you see their smile and their laughter when we were showing it to them," Naedzo said. Drybones, the elder transported to hand games through the headset, said he likes it very much — especially the drumming." https://lnkd.in/dVPPwfSP

“In practice, this means patients in rural or remote communities have the potential to access virtual assessments, interactively, in real time with expert clinicians who are based in urban centres. A senior living in a long-term care centre can have her balance issues assessed without having to leave her community. As a local clinician gently moves her head, a special headset fitted with small cameras transmits her eye movements to an urban vestibular specialist who can advise or guide treatment.” https://lnkd.in/gs3HqrZS #vrhealth #rural #virtualreality
