Primera Consulting was founded on the principle that not all organizations need full-time 'HSE' professionals. Organizations have several restricting factors, some of which may include time, budget, and strategic planning. At Primera, we want to provide organizations with custom solutions and advice that fits the business model.  Your business model that is. Primera Consulting started their vision with pay-per-month subscription style consulting. This has allowed small and limited budget organizations to ensure the health and safety of their employees, gain compliance and save money on overhead. Unlike other services of it's kind – Primera offers a 30 day out and what we did for you, belongs to you! AKA that document we made for you will not have Primera branding all over. It's yours. This idea rounded out into a hybrid consulting model that allows organizations to choose a subscription style or bespoke consulting services. Regardless of what services you choose with Primera, we have a solution.

    Pay attention if you have paid over $15,000 in premiums over the past three years! Did you know that in January of 2024, the Workers Compensation Board of Alberta increased the claim threshold to $1,900? Sending an employee to the doctor often raises concerns, especially for smaller businesses. One visit could mean fewer jobs and increased premiums. Alberta has a claim threshold that reduces that fear and allows employers to feel a tad better about Workers' Compensation. Suppose a claim is not a lost time and stays under the threshold. The burden of the claim is covered by industry. This is a good thing! The employer can rest easy knowing they will be okay following an incident, and employees can obtain proper medical attention. You can keep claim costs low by effectively managing the claim, offering modified work, and reducing the overall severity of incidents before they occur. Need help?     What should you put in your health and safety policy? 💙 Why safety is important to the Owner of the business (and be honest - people will know)! This can be life safety, or jobs to generate employment. 💙 Any external requirements (think COR, ISO) 💙 Your expectations (that you will follow), typically a commitment to the legislation Tip: only include 'environmental' if it's closely linked with the health and safety operations. Avoid stating is an 'EHS Policy' if it only covers safety! Use this policy to shape everything that you do within the organization. Always come back, share it, and make it a ritual at your organization.

    Without looking at your company's health and safety policy - can you recall what is in it? Does it reflect you? Your business? Take a look at Company A and their safety policy: "Since our inception in 2000 we have been using both in house safety personnel and third party providers to develop and improve the safety program. We are members of the 4 industry leading employee safety programs Workplace Safety COR (Certificate of Recognition), ISNetworld, PICS Canada and ComplyWorks. ---- offers a large selection of safety services including plant turnaround, door pulls on storage tanks, spill cleanups, chemical washes, and confined space entries. All ---- employees working within a confined space are trained and certified with their current confined space ticketing." Aside from the few small grammatical errors, we are missing what safety means to them. In 2021, an employee received a fatal injury and Company A received a fine of 350k.
