Lucille has had nearly every job imaginable. She’s worked for a factory, a dentist’s office, a law firm, and an insurance adjuster. She’s worked in schools, driven a school bus and for the last two decades of her career, was the money manager at her local Walmart.   “I’ve loved every one of my jobs,” Lucille told us. “I just love working! I would work for nothing, but I never told my bosses that!”   Lucille loves working so much that she was still going to work at the age of 86. She had to quit, though, when she was diagnosed with COPD and her shortness of breath was getting in the way of her work.   When Lucille received her diagnosis, she was stunned. “The day they first brought the stuff in, I was overwhelmed. Jeff just started bringing in all this equipment and I said I can’t do this. It’s too complicated. But he sat with me and went through it step-by-step, over and over, until I was settled right down,” Lucille recalled. “The next day, Sarah came over to reinforce everything I’ve learned and now there is nothing to it.”   Lucille is grateful to her new oxygen setup because it lets her get out of the house and go shopping. One item she is very fond of picking up at the store: chocolate. “I am a chocoholic,” confessed Lucille. “I have a freezer full of chocolate, and I share some with Jeff when he comes to deliver my oxygen on Wednesdays.”   One day, when Jeff and Lucille were chatting, they got talking about schools. Jeff mentioned that he attended A.K. Wigg Elementary School. The two quickly put together that when Jeff was a student there, in the 1970s, Lucille was the secretary. They both shared their fond memories of the teachers and staff from that time, before realizing that Lucille also worked as a nurse at Jeff’s high school, where she was the one who gave him his immunizations.   “I was in the workforce for 70 years,” Lucille said. “I’ve dealt with a lot of people, but never have I come across a company where every single person is as knowledgeable, caring and helpful as with ProResp.”   Thanks, Lucille. We appreciate the kind words and all the chocolate treats! Learn more at www.prorespcares.ca

Maureen’s favourite hobby is baking. “This week I made a brioche and a strawberry cream pie, and on Monday I made bread for some of my neighbours,” Maureen told us. Maureen has been a ProResp home oxygen client for 8 years. “I have never dealt with anybody that is as obliging and friendly as the people at ProResp,” she told us. “They are wonderful and make me feel so special. I have not met one person at ProResp who I do not like and that is a hard thing to say in this day and age,” added Maureen. When Maureen was first prescribed home oxygen therapy, she didn’t like it. “But once I realized how much it was helping me and making my life easier, I came around quickly,” she said. “Without the oxygen, I would be stuck at home on the couch. But with the support of ProResp, I can still do everything I want, like go shopping across the border with my daughter for new baking supplies. I’m a bit of a gadget junky and I have a pan for everything. Though I still use many of the old baking pans that were my mother’s,” Maureen added with a chuckle. Thanks to her portable oxygen concentrator, Maureen is also able to make it out twice a week to see one of her great grandsons play t-ball. “I’m so proud of him,” she beamed. “I spoil my great grandsons rotten, but that’s my job,” Maureen said. “My goal is to see them get married one day.” ProResp is here to support you, Maureen, in all your baking, cross border shopping and in one day being there to see your great grandsons tie the knot. We can’t wait to taste your next creation! Learn more at www.prorespcares.ca

Reading this post could change your life – or the life of someone you love. That’s because Joanne had no idea that she was suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, but as soon as she was diagnosed and started BIPAP therapy, her whole life changed.   “I am only two weeks and I feel like a new person. I haven’t felt this great in years,” Joanne told us.   Joanne has long suffered from asthma, and a few years back, she contracted a respiratory virus that she just couldn’t recover from. She had to stop working and move in with her daughter’s family, but still she got sicker and sicker.   “I had to stop driving, I started using a walker… I would be out of breath after walking just a few feet. I just had no energy. I would go back to bed 20 minutes after getting up or fall asleep while cutting potatoes. I couldn’t hold my granddaughter because I didn’t trust my arms and hands,” recalled Joanne.   Eventually, Joanne’s respirologist referred her to a sleep clinic. Their diagnosis was immediate: a severe case of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, a condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during the night.   “I was stopping breathing several times each night,” Joanne said. “I probably hadn’t entered REM sleep for years. It explained why my whole body was failing me.”   ProResp was assigned to help Joanne finally get a good night’s sleep. The team provided her with a BIPAP machine, which stands for bilevel positive airway pressure. The BiPAP machine assists a person’s breathing through the night by holding the airway open and helping get air into the lungs.   “ProResp really made me feel comfortable. As an asthmatic, a mask on my face made me scared at first. But they helped me overcome those fears and understand how to use this machine that was going to help me. And oh, my goodness has it helped! After the first night I couldn’t believe it. I felt like I had slept for the first time in years. I wanted to go for a run I felt so good! Now I am only two weeks in, and I have not had one single nap in that time. And I can hold my granddaughter!” Joanne beamed.   Sleep apnea is quite common but sadly, many people go undiagnosed.
