Hommage sincère au sous-ministre Shawn Tupper Alors que nous célébrons près de 40 années de dévouement de Shawn Tupper dans la fonction publique, nous nous rappelons de l’impact profond qu’il a eu, non seulement par son leadership, mais aussi par son engagement indéfectible envers l’inclusion, le mentorat et le renforcement de la communauté.   Tout au long de sa carrière remarquable, Shawn a occupé certains des rôles les plus élevés au sein du gouvernement fédéral, en tant que sous-ministre de la Sécurité publique Canada, sous-ministre délégué de Ressources naturelles Canada et dans des postes clés au Bureau du Conseil privé, à Transports Canada, et au-delà. Son expertise a façonné des politiques qui ont renforcé la sécurité publique du Canada, la résilience communautaire et le développement social. Mais au-delà de son impressionnant parcours, c’est le cœur et l’humanité derrière son travail qui se démarquent le plus.   L’un des chapitres les plus inspirants du parcours de Shawn a été son leadership courageux en tant que pionnier pour la communauté 2ELGBTQIA+. En tant que l’un des premiers sous-ministres à faire son coming out publiquement, Shawn a ouvert la voie à une plus grande inclusion et acceptation au sein de la fonction publique. Son courage et son authenticité ont rendu le chemin plus sûr et plus accessible pour les autres qui ont suivi ses traces. Il n’a pas seulement fait une différence au niveau exécutif – il a touché des vies en mentorant la prochaine génération de leaders, insufflant sa conviction en la diversité et l'inclusion dans toutes ses actions.   Shawn a été membre du Réseau de la Fierté à la fonction publique depuis ses débuts et s’est toujours rendu disponible pour nous, apparaissant comme un champion de l’inclusion 2ELGBTQIA+. Son rôle en tant que l’un des premiers mentors exécutifs dans notre programme inaugural de mentorat a laissé une marque indélébile sur beaucoup.   Alors que Shawn entame sa retraite, nous célébrons non seulement les impressionnants jalons de sa carrière, mais aussi l’héritage de gentillesse, de mentorat et de courage qu’il laisse derrière lui. Son leadership et son dévouement ont fait de la fonction publique un lieu plus inclusif pour tous, et son impact se fera sentir pour les années à venir.   Merci, Shawn, pour votre service extraordinaire au Canada et à la communauté 2ELGBTQIA+. A Heartfelt Tribute to Deputy Minister Shawn Tupper As we celebrate nearly 40 years of Shawn Tupper’s dedication to the public service, we are reminded of the profound impact he has made—not just through his leadership, but through his unwavering commitment to inclusion, mentorship, and community building. Throughout his remarkable career, Shawn has held some of the most senior roles across the federal government, serving as Deputy Minister of Public Safety Canada, Associate Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Canada, and holding key positions at the Privy Council Office, Transport Canada, and beyond. His expertise shaped policies that strengthened Canada’s public safety, community resilience, and social development. But beyond his impressive resume, it’s the heart and humanity behind his work that stand out most. One of the most inspiring chapters of Shawn’s journey has been his fearless leadership as a trailblazer for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. As one of the first deputy ministers to come out publicly, Shawn paved the way for greater inclusion and acceptance within the public service. His courage and authenticity made it safer and easier for others to follow in his footsteps. He didn’t just make a difference at the executive level—he touched lives by mentoring the next generation of leaders, infusing his belief in diversity and inclusion into everything he did. Shawn has been a member of the Public Service Pride Network early on and always made himself available to us, showing up as a champion for 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion. His role as one of the first Executive DM mentors in our inaugural mentorship program left an indelible mark on many. As Shawn steps into retirement, we celebrate not just the impressive milestones of his career, but the legacy of kindness, mentorship, and courage he leaves behind. His leadership and dedication have made the public service a better, more inclusive place for everyone, and his impact will be felt for years to come. Thank you, Shawn, for your extraordinary service to Canada and to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. You will be greatly missed, but your influence will continue to inspire us all. Back from a whirlwind trip to Moncton for the Atlantic Federal Council meeting. What an amazing opportunity to meet senior leaders from several departments across the Atlantic provinces in one place.
