After almost five years at WestJet, where I dabbled in change management, pioneered virtual work, and convinced a cute pilot to marry me, I was truly a fish out of water joining PwC Canada. To be honest, I’m unsure I even knew what a “big four” was before joining the firm. I love sharing the story of how in my interview I told them how I’d once stood on a counter in Pearson airport with a bullhorn to wrangle a crowd of passengers - even though I’d never worked in an airport in my life. PwC was eager to hire the “yelling Westjet lady”. Who would’ve guessed what a rocket ship this would turn to be for my career. I often refer to my time at PwC as an MBA on steroids as I learnt SO MUCH about so many different things in so different industries, I was drinking out of a firehose. The thing that stands out the most to me though were the people. I got to work with - and hire! - so many incredible people who believed in me, the very non traditional PwC hire, and made friends who pushed me into new and exciting roles and opportunities and forced me to believe in myself (looking at you ladies Jessica Else, CA , Marla Singer and Mélissa Romulus Lisanti). How very cool now to get an email this morning and see me featured on the PwC website as an Alumni achiever. So many of the lessons I’d learnt while building PwC Ventures (now PwC Products), which basically was a startup within the comfy yet restrictive walls of a 100 year old audit firm, I have leaned on while building at Toast (shoutout to that OG team I worked so closely with: Bill Bilic, Mitchell Reisler, Lauren McCartney, Rich Adam, Bo Macy, CPA). What a crazy cool experience that was. PwC gave me a strong foundation to launch from, and I’m so happy I get to continue working closely with them with my work at Toast.
Thanks for the shoutout PwC Canada! https://lnkd.in/gUPP6PAD
