🌊 Exciting news for ocean science and sailing enthusiasts! 🌍 We're thrilled to share that Argo floats integrated with RBR CTDs will be onboard over half of the boats participating in the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe yacht race! This remarkable initiative is the result of a powerful collaboration between Vendée Globe, IMOCA, and UNESCO, as part of the UN Decade for the Oceans (2021-2030). The Vendée Globe is celebrated as the ultimate solo sailing challenge—non-stop and without assistance, circumnavigating the globe. As racers tackle the unpredictable elements of wind, waves, and ice, they'll also be deploying these innovative nke Instrumentation Argo profiling floats along the 45,000 km route, contributing to vital ocean research. Mark your calendars for the race start on November 10, 2024, from Les Sables-d'Olonne on the stunning Atlantic coast of Western France. Join us in cheering on these incredible solo sailors as they embark on this extraordinary journey! #VendéeGlobe #OceanScience #SailingInnovation #UNDecadeForTheOceans #measuretheblueplanet #rbr_global #Argo #ArgoFloats #OceanObserving

Today's post connected to day 2 of AusYCSEC, is an RBR webinar that includes a fascinating presentation by Curt Storlazzi of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) who presented on "Application of field measurements to understand spectral wave transformation across coral reef flats". As always with Curt's presentations, this was both informative and interesting - reflected by the 20 mins of Q&A at the end... https://lnkd.in/gpmDKG3

On the opening day of AusYCSEC, we are sharing the second coastal-engineerd-themed webinar from our previous series. This video features Evan Watterson of Bluecoast Consulting Engineers where he expertly details using nine RBRduet temperature and depth loggers for surf zone monitoring at the Palm Beach artificial reef on the Gold Coast - a reef that was built in 2019 at a cost of $18 million. https://lnkd.in/gxZiqj6R #AusYCSEC #rbr_global #Oceanography #Coastal #marinescience #coastalengineering

Congratulations RTSYS - Underwater Acoustics & Drones and Amundsen Science with this project. It's great to see the RBRlegato mounted underneath the #NemoSens micro AUV leaving space above for the upward-looking SSS. The low power requirement of the RBR sensors means longer mission durations = more science.
Leg 4 of 2024 Amundsen Expedition concluded today with crew change and a new team of scientists coming onboard ⛴️ In additions to 5 days of ice operations, scientists and coast guard crew have carried out a total of 176 operations including the use of #NemoSens micro AUV with upside down SSS to scan the lower part of the ice 🧊 An exciting project for both scientists and RTsys engineering team to think outside the box 💡 Aboard the research vessel, the crew finally covered 3949 km in Nares Strait, Kennedy Basin and Lancaster Sound during this Leg 4 Congratulations to them 👏🏻 and congrats to frozen NemoSens of course 😉 #auv #microauv #upsidedown #sidescansonar #underwater #seabed #monitoring

Ahead of this week's 5th Australasian Young Coastal Scientists and Engineers Conference (AusYCSEC) on Queensland's Gold Coast that RBR is supporting, we are resharing several relevant webinars from our webinar series. The first is from Associate Professor Hannah Power of the University of Newcastle who gave a fascinating presentation on "Measuring Waves to Better Quantify Coastal Hazards" including measuring wave overwash at a remote "insta" hotspot to help keep '000s of people safe. Accurate water level measurements are essential for coastal engineers. Early career professionals are the next generation of coastal engineers and scientists. So it's great that RBR has the opportunity to sponsor an event that combines both. The 5th Australasian Young Coastal Scientists and Engineers Conference (AusYCSEC) is just around the corner, offering a fantastic opportunity for professionals and early-career researchers to connect and discuss the latest advancements in coastal engineering and ocean sciences. This year's AusYCSEC is being held on the Gold Coast over 3 days, and our Iain Francis will be attending to showcase how RBR’s instrumentation is already being used to support coastal engineering globally. He will also be holding a draw for in-person attendees to stand the chance to win an RBR stand-up paddle board! If you are attending or would like to know more about RBR instrumentation and how it can help your research, reach out to Iain - he is always happy to have a chat. https://lnkd.in/g9x8VFVi #AusYCSEC #rbr_global #Oceanography #Coastal #marinescience #coastalengineering

Great to see the team at AZTI using the ALSEAMAR Seaexplorer fitted out with a whole range of RBR sensors including the RBRlegato CTD and RBRcoda T.ODO temperature and DO optode. These low power, high accuracy sensors are ideal for extending mission durations. Good luck with the program - we look forward to seeing the results.
