  • Building Recovery Capital with Complex Needs Participants September 17th 2024 Delta Regina Hotel Full Day Conference About this Session In the years since Pine Lodge Addiction Recovery has moved from a rural setting to the core urban neighbourhood in the throes of the fentanyl epidemic, the needs of those we serve has changed dramatically. Chronic homelessness, co-occurring mental health disorders, complex medical needs, and disconnect from supportive services is now common among a significant majority of those seeking treatment. With so many external factors it’s difficult for individuals to focus on treatment. Pine Lodge employees specialized case managers to assist with connection to outside organizations in the areas of health, housing, cultural connection, social assistance, and any other identified need that reaches beyond the scope of our own practice. These case managers allow the clients to maximize their focus on the education and group counselling sessions, building resiliency through the development of practical skills to manage and regulate their bodies. With help from their primary counsellor and their case manager, participants build their recovery plans and increase their Recovery capital while in treatment in order to increase the likelihood of long-term recovery. Learning Objectives 1) how we use recovery capital 2) what are some common deficits among our participants 3) how building recovery capital improves outcomes for our participants. • When people think of addiction they think of unemployment and homelessness. According to a study for the National Institute on Health, only 30.4% of people with addiction are homeless. The rest have jobs and are not homeless. Is our healthcare response to addiction supporting everyone with their needs?
