Yesterday, part of our Bethany Care Centre project team Doug Reinbold. P.Eng., LEED AP and Byron Whitford had the pleasure of volunteering for the Calgary Construction Association's Honour the Work Skilled-Trades Education Supplement Program. We had the opportunity to help assemble 850 classroom STEAMS Kits (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Skills). These kits provide hands on activities designed to introduce and inspire interest in skilled-trades for students in grades 1-6. We are thrilled to support this important initiative which will impact the future of skilled-trades A huge thank you to Calgary Construction Association in partnership with Honour The Work for hosting this fantastic event. 🇨🇦Happy Canada Day! We are proud of our diverse team, many of whom are newcomers to Canada! For those who haven’t experienced moving to another country it is hard to comprehend the challenges and culture shock. This Canada Day, Aydin Saberian, an Intermediate Mechanical Designer at our Calgary office, shared one of his favorite cultural differences with us…. "Since moving to Canada from Iran, I've encountered many delightful cultural differences, but none quite as intriguing as the Canadian obsession with weekends. In my home country, weekends were more about rest and relaxation, with occasional nods to personal development. Here in Canada, however, weekends are practically a national event. It all began innocently enough at my new job. Fridays were like a prelude to a grand symphony – everyone buzzing with plans for the weekend. "What's your plan for the weekend?" became the dreaded question I faced each Friday. My co-workers, with their detailed itineraries of hikes, brunches, and cottage escapes, seemed to view weekends as a sacred ritual of fun and adventure. In my earnest attempt to fit in, I once proudly announced that I had enrolled in an online course to sharpen my Revit skills. John, my friendly colleague, looked at me as if I had just declared I was going to spend the weekend cataloging pine cones. "An online course?" he asked, his face a mixture of surprise and polite confusion. "But... don't you want to relax?" I explained how back in Iran, investing time in skill development over the weekend was seen as commendable, even encouraged by colleagues. He listened politely, clearly trying to grasp this foreign concept of spending leisure time on personal growth. After a moment of contemplation, he offered his sage advice: "You have all week for work and courses. Weekends are for enjoying yourself!" And so, I learned that in Canada, the weekend is not just about rejuvenation but a time to revel in leisure activities that recharge the spirit. Whether it's exploring nature, trying new cuisines, or simply unwinding with friends, Canadians embrace weekends with a fervor that's both impressive and endearing. As I continue to navigate the cultural nuances of my new home, I've come to appreciate the joy that weekends bring to Canadians. And who knows, maybe one day I'll join them in planning weekend adventures that are less about courses and more about embracing the spirit of leisure."

Reinbold Engineering Group is excited to mark a significant achievement in the development of the Holyrood Supportive Housing facility in Edmonton, Alberta. With the structure now complete, the building is nearing its goal of offering essential affordable housing. The project boasts a high-performance building envelope, triple-pane windows, condensing boilers, and exhaust air heat recovery systems, resulting in more than 25% energy savings compared to the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings. These energy-efficient features not only enhance affordability but also qualify the project for funding under the CMHC Rapid Housing Initiative. REG provided Mechanical Engineering and Energy Modelling services for Holyrood. #reinboldengineering #mechanicalengineering #supportivehousing #energymodelling #edmontonconstruction #CMHCrapidhousing #affordablehousing
Today we celebrated a construction milestone at Edmonton’s newest supportive housing unit with Homeward Trust and my colleague Ashley Salvador Last fall we broke ground on the Holyrood Supportive Housing site and today we were pleased to announce that the structural work is now complete. This new supportive housing facility demonstrates the commitment that will be needed form all three levels of government to address this housing crisis. #yegcc

Project Progress: The Parks, Edmonton, AB REG is providing Mechanical Engineering and Energy Modelling services for The Parks; a unique residential mixed-use complex located on the corner of Jasper Ave and 108 Street. The project will feature two slim high-rise residential towers with small floor plates and chambered façade above a partial two-storey podium with a 13-storey mid-rise “link” building connecting the towers. The towers are 35 and 45 storeys and will provide 1,000+ units and main floor commercial space, below-grade parking, and indoor access to Corona Station LRT. Fan coils with integral exhaust air heat recovery substantially reduce the heating costs of the building and improve affordability for all occupants. The Parks is pursuing LEED Certification which demonstrates the Owner’s commitment to sustainability and resiliency.🌿 #Theparks #Reinboldengineering #Edmontonconstruction #LEED #Projectprogress #mechanicalengineeringedmonton
