RESCON is commending Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre and his party for putting forward a plan to remove the #GST from new #housing and encourage the provinces to do the same as it will save buyers tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of a new home, RESCON president Richard Lyall says in Canadian Contractor Magazine. “Builders have been urging the federal and provincial governments to remove the sales taxes to bring down the cost of new housing and spur construction of residential development," he stated. #housingsupplycrisis #cdnpoli #construction #development Bryce M.

RESCON president Richard Lyall said in an article written by Zakiya K. in Storeys that he commends Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives for putting forth a plan to remove the goods and services tax on new homes sold for less than $1 million. “The tax burden is preventing many people from buying a new home and many are leaving our cities,” said Lyall. “The plan put forward by the Conservatives is forward-thinking and should help restore balance to the market.” #housingsupplycrisis #cdnpoli #construction #development Danny Roth Eric Wainwright Bryce M.

RESCON president Richard Lyall told the Toronto Star that a policy that was introduced in 1991 and provides a sales tax rebate for the sale of new homes priced under $450,000 has lost its effect over the years, in part because it was “never adjusted for inflation, as was supposed to have been the case.” #housingsupplycrisis #cdnpoli #construction #development

Bill 190 is pioneering legislation that would open pathways into the skilled trades by removing barriers, especially for new Canadians and those seeking to enter the construction workforce, RESCON president Richard Lyall said in a Builder Bites column at https://lnkd.in/gRz9kbQD. “The planned changes are important because the province needs to be a jurisdiction that is welcoming to talented workers,” he noted. “In the next decade, 100,000 construction workers will have to be hired, trained and retained. The legislation will ensure we lead the way in respecting workers’ rights.” #laboursupply #construction #skilledtrades #immigration Andrew Pariser David Piccini

There has been a lot promised on the housing front but not enough action and co-ordination between three levels of government, Marlon Bray, executive vice-president with Clark Construction Management , told attendees at RESCON’s recent Housing Summit 4.0 event. “We’re sinking fast and we’re actually losing the war on #housing affordability,” he said in an article in The Daily Commercial News and Construction Record by Angela Gismondi. “The crisis is actually getting a lot worse, not better, and that’s with everyone going all in over the past couple of years. “The best way to summarize where we are right now is we’re in reverse gear. The lemmings are lining up on the cliff. If we don’t do something fast everyone might as well just toss themselves off.” #housingsupplycrisis #construction #development Richard Lyall Vince Versace Lindsey Cole
