Do consumers know what they are putting in their bodies? When you buy through the legally regulated market, YES. A recent article from NB reveals high levels of chemical contaminants in illicit cannabis vape cartridges, which included high levels of pesticide contamination. "The results show not only “alarming” levels of chemical contaminants in illicit cannabis vape cartridges and extracts, including a 93% positivity rate for pesticide contamination, but also revealed that the illicit vapes and edibles were often well below their stated THC label claims." #CannabisLegalizationDay is a significant reminder of how far the cannabis industry has come since legalization in 2018, but it's also an opportunity to highlight ongoing challenges that licensed producers (LPs) across the nation face, such as excise stamps. Cannabis producers, big or small, feel the strain of regulatory burden when it comes to managing excise stamps. The status quo requires LPs to inventory up to 13 different provincial and/or territorial stamps to meet sales demands across each respective market. The suggestive solution from Cannabis Council of Canada is pivoting to a single federal excise stamp. Such a change would allow for more efficient and cost-effective operational planning for each said business. Pure Sunfarms President, Orville Bovenschen estimates annual savings of one million dollars per year for his company if this proposal came to fruition. Retro Cannabis strongly supports this recommended change and believe it is a more practical barrier to strive for, before addressing the larger industry challenge at hand, which is excise tax itself. This marks the first time a collegiate athletic program has partnered with a cannabis brand, involving USC's football and both men's and women's basketball programs. The partnership reflects UCS's leadership and innovation, as the NCAA recently removed cannabis from its banned substances list, recognizing it as a non-performance-enhancing.
