    Companies mature over time in a similar way to how people do. These developmental stages are predictable. Larry Greiner's Growth Model explains the 6 phases that modern companies go through as they experience growth as a business. #Creativity is the entrepreneurial and creative stage. This marks a company's "beginnings" when it is striving to find its product-market fit. #Direction is the next stage where departments are created and managers assigned to bring more order and predictability to the business and its customers. #Delegation is where leadership gives up their hands-on involvement in the day-to-day to focus on strategy and other growth opportunities by hiring specialist workers with deep knowledge on a specific aspect of the business. #Coordination is the stage where departments work together to continuously evolve and improve an overall product and service to their market. #Collaboration is an evolution in the Coordination stage. Systems are improved to achieve efficiencies and there is a focus on learning and development to capture and share organizational knowledge. #Alliances is the final growth stage in Greiner's model. It focuses on strategic alliances where the company merges, partners with or acquires another business to grow further. In reality, companies aren't "in" one phase or another. Their development is more of a spectrum where they have vestiges of earlier stages and bright glimmers of later stages. Each stage also has associated pain points. A company's growing pains can be managed by reflecting on the challenges that are happening and having an action plan for dealing with them.
