Transformational Leadership in the Arts

About us

Founded in 1990, the Rozsa Foundation is a philanthropic organization that supports, strengthens and celebrates the Arts in Alberta. The Foundation builds on the legacy of Drs. Ted and Lola Rozsa, who were acknowledged champions of the Arts in the City of Calgary. The Rozsa Foundation offers grants to support planning, capacity building & leadership, organizational experimentation, and implementation of bold, forward-looking approaches to addressing current & future challenges. We develop arts leaders through our suite of Arts Leadership Programs which are designed to strengthen business acumen and organizational resilience within arts organizations. We recognize, promote, and celebrate excellence in arts management with the annual Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management and Rozsa Award for Excellence in Board Leadership.

Sue Shane Tsomondo: 2024 Recipient of the Rozsa Foundation Emerging Arts Manager Award The Rozsa Foundation Emerging Arts Manager Award recognizes an individual in the early stages of their arts management career who has shown that their work significantly impacts the arts community. The recipient is recognized for their achievements to date and for their potential future impact. We first learned of Sue-Shane and her work through Sue’s Stokvel, a literary platform she founded to uplift Black & Indigenous authors. She has since joined Mountain Standard Time (M:ST) as Executive Director just as the organization had decided to move on from their signature biennial festival. This left M:ST at an identity crossroads, and Sue-Shane has managed to forge new pathways forward and shape a new artistic identity by building amazing partnerships and developing artist residencies in printmaking and music, among many other exciting initiatives. Sue Shane did this while solidifying operational structures within the organization, prioritizing paying fair wages to artists and contractors, planning pathways for digital equity, and centering care, respect, transparency, and knowledge sharing within the organization and the community M:ST serves. Congratulations Shue Shane, we can't wait to watch your career continue to unfold and your impact on our community deepen with time. #rozsafoundation #artsmanagement #artsleadership #art #artists #yycarts #alberta #community

Congratulations to all the incredible finalists for Canada's most prestigious theatre award, especially Calgary’s own The Old Trout Puppet Workshop! The Old Trout Puppet Workshop began as a humble endeavor to create puppets while living off the land. Initially performing for a local audience of cowboys and Hutterites, their success at Calgary’s High-Performance Rodeo ignited a deep ambition. Over the past two decades, they've evolved from their rural roots to a bustling operation in Calgary, employing many and producing various shows and artistic works. Their productions have toured Canada, the U.S., and Europe, and they also engage in diverse creative projects, including sculptures, films, and design work for major institutions. “There is a magic in seeing a dead thing breathe that speaks to an older, cave-bred part of us – which is to say, there is wonder in it, and that’s the other side of our design philosophy, the thing we’re striving for: we are founded with the timorous desire to conjure joy, as much as we might. The theatre we aim to make is superfluous, unnecessary, and exuberant, in the face of the wintery world.” - Old Trout Puppet Workshop, Finalist We can't wait to see who will take home this year's prize!Catch the announcement of the laureate on December 2, 2024 at 7 pm ET, along with the premiere of the finalists' documentaries. Best of luck to all the finalists Learn more : https://lnkd.in/gzrYDhp5 Reposted photo from Siminovitch Prize's instagram page
