Work on trenches and excavations carries numerous hazards and can pose a serious threat of injury and even death, if the risks are not properly assessed and guarded against. The hazards of trenching and excavation can affect workers both above and below ground. These hazards include: • Collapses that can crush or trap people within the excavation. • Falls of equipment or soil into the excavation. • Flooding. • Slips, trips, and falls, including falls into the trench. • Contact with buried service lines. • Contact with overhead power lines. • Hazards from gas, dust, or lack of oxygen.
Reducing worker fatalities MUST be a 🔝 priority. We should familiarise ourselves with the at-risk industries and create a plan to keep everyone involved #safe.
