Today the SPS hosted a group of Grace 9 students and their parents for Take Our Kids to Work Day. They were greeted by the Chief of Police, toured the cells and communications centre, got to see a police car up close, and learned about the many different career opportunities within a police service. We always enjoy the opportunity to share about policing and engage with youth. Thank you for joining us!

Cops for Cans is back on November 16, 2024. Officers will be stationed at multiple locations across the city from 10 AM to 3 PM, collecting non-perishable food donations for the Inn of the Good Shepherd, a vital local organization that provides support to individuals and families in need. The Sarnia Police Service encourages all residents to join us in making a difference in our community. Together, we can help ensure that local families have access to food and essentials during the holidays and beyond. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated as we work to strengthen our community and care for our neighbours. Read the full media release on our website: https://lnkd.in/eGQT2eRG

The Sarnia Police Service would like to the community for the support of our Halloween project last night. We enjoyed seeing everyone enjoying a safe Halloween. SPS invested approximately 40 hours of resources to support our community. Officers had many positive interactions with children and their families and handed out reflective safety bracelets to promote safe trick-or-treating. There were no major community concerns and no arrests or charges. Officers conducted 31 traffic stops to ensure that drivers were not impaired and they were driving in a manner that ensured the safety of families on the street. Two traffic tickets were issued. The project was a positive initiative for the Sarnia Police Service and the community and we have plans to build on it in the future.

October is Women's History Month. It was just two weeks and 50 years ago, that the first women took their oath to become RCMP officers. Four years later, the Sarnia Police Service hired its first female officer. Constable Elaine Keith served from 1978 to 1981 and is an important part of Sarnia Police history.
