About us
Mission statement To assemble students and leaders in government, industry, research and the community for an exchange of ideas on science and policy issues affecting Quebec. About us We are a team of volunteer graduate students and post-doctoral fellows convinced that science and policy must communicate to better serve society. We aim to make this conference the premier forum for stakeholders to discuss the future of the knowledge economy in Quebec. If you are a student in the sciences and are interested in joining the conference organization committee or to volunteer for our organization please contact us. Science & Policy Exchange is one of the few bilingual student led initiatives directly engaging with Quebec’s political scene and effectively bridging the gap between academia, industry and government leaders.

So great to have researchers from across Canada convene in Ottawa for Science Meets Parliament. Over two days delegates met with MPs, Senators and members of the federal science policy community - including from my office - to learn about the work of Parliament and create meaningful and sustained dialogues with decision makers. Building dialogue with the science community ensures that policymakers have access to the best available evidence. In turn, scientists learn to better appreciate the needs of public policies and the most relevant scientific data that can inform them. #SciParl2024

🔊 Science & Policy Exchange - Statement on the 2024 Federal Budget Science & Policy Exchange welcomes the path taken by the federal government through its 2024 budget to better support the next generation of researchers and the Canadian research system. 🎉 We are thrilled to see the value of federal graduate and postdoctoral awards finally increase after more than 20 years of stagnation. We hope that the new award values will drive other research funders across Canada to increase their support of the next generation of researchers. We also appreciate the increased funding for the budgets of the Tri-Agency over the next five years, which will hopefully increase the values of research grants and allow for professors to better support their graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. We would like to thank all stakeholders who have been strongly advocating for budget increases in these fields, especially Support Our Science, which has spearheaded these advocacy efforts at the federal level in recent years. 💡 While we believe these announcements are going in the right direction, we are disappointed that the value of the announced funds remain below what the Advisory Committee on the Federal Research Support System, Support Our Science, SPE, and other organizations have recommended. We note that a large proportion of the new investments are earmarked for later years, notably after the next federal elections. We hope that the government will maintain its commitment to support the next generation of researchers in the years to come. We are also concerned that international students and postdocs will see their – already limited – access to federal awards reduced by the streamlining of all award programs into one. As they bring valuable skills, knowledge, and networks to the Canadian research community, and actively contribute to Canadian research, they should be better supported. We look forward to further details on the implementation of the changes and funding announced, which we will be following closely. We will continue to advocate for better support for the next generation of researchers in Canada. #SupportOurScience #ScienceAdvocacy #Budget2024 #polcan #gradstudents #postdocs #scipol #researchers

✅ Budget 2024 makes the largest investment in 20+ years for grad students & postdocs! It will support financial needs, boost mental well-being, allow focus on research, & promote diversity by easing barriers for underrepresented groups. 💪 ✅ Budget 2024 increases the value of Tri-agency scholarships & fellowships by up to 90% & adds 1720 new awards. This sets a new compensation benchmark for Canada's graduate students & postdoctoral scholars. 📈 ✅ Budget 2024 ups research grants by 3-8% This boost will help graduate students and postdoctoral scholars paid directly by their supervisors. 📈 ✅ While Budget 2024 is an important step, we need ongoing investments in our competitive research & innovation sectors. Let's keep investing in our researchers! 💰 ✅ The funding in Budget 2024 was only possible due to the community surrounding us. We've scored a historic win for grad students & postdocs, financial aid, well-being & research focus. Thanks to everyone pushing for a brighter, inclusive future in research! #SOSBudget2024 🎉💡 Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eJTzjEM5
