Spheroids are 3D cell aggregates that can mimic tissues and microtumors. 3D spheroids are becoming increasingly used for the analysis of different therapeutic agents and other pharmaceutical molecules. They are a promising model for the study of cancer biology, cancer initiation, invasion, metastatic processes, and drug testing. Check out this real-time cytotoxicity assay using spheroids and the anticancer agent, Staurosporine. The red fluorescence intensity \(related to the dead cells\) increases according with time and concentrations of the drug. We can see it the spheroid size decreasing when the concentrations of drug increases.
