About us
Sedgwick Strategies is a firm dedicated to assisting major projects to achieve success. In today’s politically charged environment almost every major project, from mining to transmission lines, is contentious. Modern companies need the tools necessary to de-risk their projects across diverse stakeholder groups. We are committed to getting worthwhile projects in the industrial, natural resource and infrastructure sectors to “YES.” Unfortunately, in British Columbia the list of unsuccessful projects is very long. Pipelines, mines, transmission lines and even public infrastructure projects have foundered as a result of the inability to the project to address “soft issue risk” or as some describe it, issues around social license.

Friday, November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day. A day when we remember the thousands of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit veterans across Canada. In the past many Indigenous people had to travel great distances from their community to just enlist. Many had to learn a new language and adapt to cultural differences. When they returned Indigenous Veterans were given unequal treatment when compared to their Canadian counterparts. For this, we remember the Indigenous Veterans who endured this unfair treatment while answering the call to protect Canadian lives during a time of great turmoil. Sedgwick Strategies was proud to be part of the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Moonlight Gala on November 2nd, celebrating the theme "There’s No Place Like Home." Our team members Byng Giraud, Tanya Corbet, and Taylor Grant, who also happen call Delta home, were excited to join this incredible event and give back to their community with Tsawwassen First Nation Executive Councillor Taylor Baker. The evening brought together business, community, and healthcare leaders to enhance the well-being of Delta’s residents. Since 1988 the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation has raised $73 million to support essential equipment and projects. This year’s gala will fund the ‘Coming Home’ capital campaign for the new Beedie Long Term Care Centre. We’re thrilled to support such an impactful initiative in the community we call home!

We had the privilege of hosting Brian Kynoch, President of Imperial Metals Corporation, on the latest episode of the Primary Risk podcast. Brian's storied career has defined a legacy in mining, not just for his impact on the industry, but for his commitment to making British Columbia a better place. Our conversation tackled the pressing realities of the mining industry today, his vision for BC’s resource sector, and the groundbreaking mine agreements Imperial Metals established with First Nations—a first in Canada’s operating history. For those navigating the future of mining, this episode is a must-listen, as Brian shares insights that highlight both the challenges and transformative opportunities shaping the mining sector. We look at your challenges holistically so that we can identify primary barriers to success. We understand that not every problem is a nail and not every solution is a hammer. Last week, Jack Middleton, Director of Policy, Sedgwick Strategies, attended the Coal Association of Canada conference in Vancouver. Conversations highlighted existing and future projects and the future demand and projections for steel and electricity globally and focused on the outsized roll of China and the growing role of India in the market. “The metallurgical coal market is facing a lot of downward pressure with net-zero by 2050 requiring a 53% increase in lower emission electric arc furnaces (EAFs) steel production. However, the reality of implementing these new technologies will be challenged by high costs and the feasibility of future technology. In any case, metallurgical coal will be needed in the long-term. Therefore, the world should look to B.C. where metallurgical coal is already our number one export and say, more of it should come from Canada. What we should be focused on is how to ensure Indigenous partnerships and community benefits are in place to make sure the industry is sustainable long into the future.” Jack Middleton, Director of Policy
