Helping empower single parents by advocating and sharing resources.

About us

Two single moms who have been there, done that. We have faced challenges, pushed through obstacles, fallen and gotten back up again. All through this we have both learned along the way and want to help you navigate this challenging but rewarding journey. By sharing resources and insight, we hope to lessen the mental load so you spend less time searching, and more time focusing on the wellbeing of yourselves and your children.

  • On World Food Day, we’re reminded of the staggering impact of hunger and poverty around the globe. But today, we also want to express our deep gratitude to organizations like Leftovers, who are making a real difference by helping feed families in need. At Single Mom Strategies, we’re incredibly thankful to Leftovers Foundation for providing essential food to our families and countless others in the community. Their support not only helps nourish bodies but also uplifts hearts, bringing hope to those facing tough times. Let’s use this day to raise awareness, inspire change, and come together to create a world where no one goes hungry. #WorldFoodDay #GratitudeInAction #SingleMomStrategies #LeftoversYYC #TogetherForChange

🧡 September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day 🧡 Today, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. This day is a time for reflection, healing, and acknowledging the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples—including single moms and their children—who carry forward the love, traditions, and teachings of their ancestors. As we commemorate this important day, let’s teach our children the values of kindness, respect, and the importance of every culture. Together, we can build a future rooted in understanding and unity. Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led initiative raising awareness of the lasting impacts of residential schools. If you choose to wear orange, consider supporting Indigenous-owned businesses. Let’s remember those lost to the residential school system and continue to support Survivors and their families. If you or someone you know needs support, the National Residential School Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 1-866-925-4419. #NationalTruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #OrangeShirtDay #IndigenousMoms #HealingTogether #StrengthInUnity #NationalResidentialSchoolCrisisLine

🌼 Happy International Youth Day! 🌎 On International Youth Day, we celebrate the passion young people in Canada have for their communities and for making Canada and the world around us a better place. The youth in our community are one of our greatest strengths 🇨🇦 FearIsNotLove offers help for young people 💜 We know youth may be experiencing struggles in their close relationships and may feel like they would like to talk to someone about these challenges. This is why we enable youth aged 12 and older to access judgment-free counselling in schools through our Healthy Relationships Program (parental consent is still required) 🍎 Changing the conversation about the disrespect, abuse and violence that can happen in close relationships means engaging our younger community members and giving them an opportunity to talk about their relationships with a counsellor who will help to highlight their strengths, responses and abilities 💪 💌 Youth can connect with their school’s guidance counsellor for a direct referral or alternatively, contact us directly at helpforchildyouthfams@fearisnotlove.ca #FearIsNotLove #endabuse #yyc #calgary #shelter #dv #nonprofit #community #youth #internationalyouthday #youthempowerment #youthday #useyourvoice #domesticviolenceawareness

Halifax- Food For Good Volume One - Continuity of Care Edition. Last week the entire country failed its “Report Card” on food security, Nova Scotia the hardest hit. We’ve been feeding about six hundred 5 to 15 year olds, chef led and scratch made breakfast and lunch daily, as a prototype with community and school partners. Marie-France LeBlanc and her team North End Community Health Centre critical collaborators, alongside Ken Hudson and the incredible Preston Area food Network. The design principles were focused on two major points. What's the healthiest and most delicious food we can make that’s grab and go AND, how do we make it stigma free? Granola bars and cheese sticks aren’t a breakfast “program” they’re an insulin spiking bandaid that does more harm than good. I’m thrilled to say my teams, their giant hearts and equally giant skill sets, got an A+ on their report cards from students, teachers, coaches, and families alike. Attendance and attention (grades) have spiked substantially, to absolutely no one’s surprise. A few weeks back, discussions turned to, what happens when school lets out? The answer of course was “We keep feeding kids, and their families.” The how, unclear, so we leaned into community. My first call was to my long time brother, exceptional chef, and champion for food equality Andy H. , he hit me with a hell yes and a million dollar smile. Every invite was met with the exact same energy and last Friday we gathered at Cheeky Neighbour (thank you Drew you’re the best) to talk “how” and eat our Lunch & Breakfast menus so folks could see all programs are NOT created equal. And man, did the community show up and out. We’re going to feed 600 families every day this summer, fresh and flash frozen, nutritious and delicious meals, delivered into their communities, every day. Some exceptional partners raised their hands to help (more on them later) and the night was filled with words of support, hugs, and a lot of love. We’ve got a long way to go to make it sustainable, but in this place, at this time, we’re confident building the plane as we fly it🤍 These beautiful shots captured by our family member Jessica Emin 🙏🏼 Massive thank you's to Andy Fillmore Mike Savage Hope Blooms Twila Grosse Dave Culligan East Coast Credit Union Mandy Chapman Mary Oxner PhD CPA CA CFA Ken Shea MBA, ICD.D Sally Van de Wiel

France 🇫🇷: “For each day of the week (except Wednesday), there’s a different four-course meal on offer including a starter, main, cheese course and dessert. This isn’t the menu du jour of another trendy restaurant in a neighborhood that’s overflowing with them — it’s my son’s school lunch menu.” #SchoolLunch #SchoolMeals https://lnkd.in/giikmcJG

Farm to School-the sustainable way to feed kids and win-win for all!

"Small, local producers face a myriad of challenges that may culminate in them, quite literally, losing the farm. 👩🌾 But a unique approach to school lunches that involves using local farms to produce food for children regardless of their families’ economic status may hold the key to their sustainability. 🥗 The adoption of universal school meals and farm-to-school programs creates an opportunity to build healthier, more sustainable places for children, farmers, and their broader communities. 🥕 By using locally grown and farmed food, from both school gardens and local farms, schools can also improve the nutrition and therefore the health and wellbeing of schoolchildren throughout the United States." 🇺🇸 #SchoolLunch #Farm2School #SchoolFood #SchoolGardens

Increasing #LocalFood in #SchoolMeals 🇺🇸: “Starting July 1, when districts put out a call for an unprocessed or minimally processed food—whether it’s tomatoes, taco meat, or tuna—they’ll be able to specify that they’d like it to be ‘locally grown, locally raised, or locally caught.’ ‘We’re . . . freeing up schools to continue to look for ways in which they can partner with producers and with local and regional food systems,’ agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack said during a press conference last week, ‘so that we create additional market opportunities for farmers and ranchers in the area, but also create a better connection between those who produce the food and those who consume it.’”
