As I sat at the BMO Center for the Calgary Economic Development 2025 Economic outlook powered by ATB Financial and Calgary Foundation, Vital City 2024, I was overtaken by gratitude, and also a realization of how fragile and fierce we are. We have come a long way from humble beginnings, to be a community everyone desires to be part of. Our shared prosperity and success also comes with some challenges and pain. No one said it was going to be easy! However, we are glass-half-full folks, defined by grit & optimism. We are diverse, with a long history of bouncing back from challenging times. My Journey with SME Worx: Growth, Support, and Resilience Starting SME Worx in 2018 as a side business while juggling multiple jobs and studying for my degree was challenging, but it shaped me into who I am today. I’m grateful to Shelley Rines, CPA, CA, my controller from my first job, who named SME Worx and has been instrumental in my journey. I used to think I could handle everything on my own, but thanks to my partner and close friend Chris Wehbe, I learned that real growth comes from building a team. His push helped me change my mindset and grow as a business owner. After pausing to focus on becoming a mother, my son is now 6 months old, and I’m ready to take SME Worx to the next level.
