📣 Don't miss our REPO/DA presentation with Ashwin Venkatraman on Monday, November 25th! 👨💻 While traditional machine learning models excel in data-rich environments, they often fall short in handling the complex, dynamic nature of subsurface reservoirs. The heterogeneities that uniquely characterize subsurface means that pure ML models cannot be generalized and are not predictive. Hybrid ML models that combine reduced physics, analytics and traditional reservoir solutions in unique ways can address these shortcomings and offer a viable way of making subsurface models more predictive. Their rapid adoption in the oil and gas industry is transforming decision making around reservoir surveillance and management in different ways. 📣 Don't miss our D&C presentation with Christian E. Nieves on Thursday, November 21st! 💡 Poor perforation efficiency and excessively high treating pressures arise from subsurface problems that lead to increased pumping costs and cluster overcapitalization in the range of $400k/well upfront. Historically, most technologies that offer a way to evaluate these issues have been either highly invasive, expensive, or unreliable which is why in 2022, Seismos, in conjunction with the operator Hess, went about field testing a new acoustic based alternative that only requires high-rate sensors located at the wellhead. The presentation will walk through these validations and specific use cases from various basins. 🚨 Join us for our Geomechanics presentation on Tuesday, November 19th! Gassmann’s equation is routinely used for fluid substitution in elastic and seismic forward modeling applications. Although several alternatives exist, they are more complex and less practical, hence the popularity of Gassmann’s equation. But this equation comes with underlying assumptions so checking that it is applicable for any given rock should always be part of the modeling workflow. In this talk, the saturated rock bulk moduli computed with Gassmann’s equation and the more general Brown & Korringa’s equation will be compared to assess the applicability of Gassmann’s equation for reservoir rocks used for CO2 storage. A simple metric will also be presented, obtainable from dry rock velocity measurements, that can be used to easily assess Gassmann’s applicability and guide the choice of fluid substitution option based on the required modeling accuracy. Illustrations of the magnitude of Gassmann’s inaccuracy is provided using data from the Northern Lights sequestration project in the North Sea.
