Traveling is exciting, but staying healthy on the go is crucial. Here are some common travel health risks and some preventive measures that you can take: ❗Traveler's Diarrhea: This is usually caused by contaminated food or water. To avoid this, eat well-cooked foods, drink bottled water, and avoid street food. ❗Insect-Borne Diseases: Mosquitoes and other insects can put you at risk for diseases such as malaria* or dengue. Be sure to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, sleep under mosquito nets when camping, and consult our travel-certified pharmacist to determine if antimalarial medication is needed for where you are travelling. ❗Respiratory Infections: Often caught in crowded places, planes, and public transport. Wear a mask, wash your hands regularly, and avoid close contact with sick individuals. ❗Sunburn & Heatstroke: If you’re traveling to a warmer destination where prolonged sun exposure will be an issue, always remember to wear and reapply sunscreen, wear a hat and sunglasses, and stay hydrated. ❗Motion Sickness: Traveling by car, boat, or plane can cause motion sickness. If this is a risk to you, ask your pharmacist about what motion sickness medications you should pack prior to your trip, remember to sit in a stable part of the vehicle, and avoid heavy meals before you travel. ❗Altitude Sickness: If you plan on hiking up a mountain or traveling to a high-altitude point during your travels, remember to ascend gradually, stay hydrated, and consider packing an altitude sickness medication. Ask your pharmacist what medication would be best for you. Planning to travel abroad? Contact our travel clinics for a pre-travel consultation and vaccine administration. Our travel-certified pharmacists will provide advice on vaccination protocols, preventive medications, documentation, and travel health tips. Prescriptions from our travel certified pharmacist are options for certain ailments, including traveler's diarrhea, malaria, altitude sickness. Contact us at least six weeks before your departure to get the best protection for your trip. If you have a last-minute travel plan, we will do our best to accommodate you and provide you with the essential vaccines and medications. Stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy your travels! https://lnkd.in/gr7gi49e #TravelHealth #TravelSafe #MakingHealthcareSimple #CanadianHealthcare #SpecialtyPharmacy #Healthcare #MakingHealthcareSimple #PuttingPatientsFirst #SRxHealth *Malaria is a major killer worldwide and is the principal life-threatening infectious disease for Canadians travelling to malaria-endemic areas. Between 400 and 1,000 cases of malaria are reported among Canadian travelers annually, resulting in one to two deaths per year (Public Health Canada)
