  • Looking back on Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day last week 💗 Sisters Stephanie Knowles, left, a breast cancer survivor, and Dr. Sarah Knowles, a breast surgeon and Director of St. Joseph’s Breast Care Program, brought new meaning to the sense of sisterhood that emanates every year at BRA Day. Stephanie was among more than 20 “models” in the ‘Show and Tell Lounge’ and Dr. Knowles was a speaker. Thank you to everyone who made this night so supportive.

  • What were you up to in 1974? On May 1, 1974, 19-year-old Barbara Scott walked through the doors of St. Joseph’s Hospital for the first time. She was just beginning her career, working in the cytology lab on a keypunch machine and completing a four-year business program. 50 years later, Barbara is still at St. Joseph’s, having spent the entirety of her career here, mainly as an administrative assistant in the pharmacy department. Barbara has seen St. Joseph’s through it all – she remembers the construction of the tunnel to Mount Hope, the sisters walking the halls, and nurses in white uniforms. But even as St. Joseph’s has evolved and technology has changed, Barbara’s deep passion for this organization has stayed the same. “To me, it’s just like another home,” Barbara says. “It is hard to believe it has been 50 years. I love coming to work. It is a wonderful place to work.” Today, Barbara will be recognized alongside 750 staff, physicians and volunteers at the Evening of Celebration, honouring those who have reached milestones of service at St. Joseph’s. Thank you, Barb, for your continued dedication to St. Joseph’s. Read more about Barb’s career and St. Joseph’s service recognition: https://bit.ly/40o6T3X

St. Joseph’s was pleased to welcome The Hon. Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, MPP, Minister of Long-Term Care, to Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care last week. Minister Kusendova-Bashta joined members of our leadership team to tour the facility and learn about the great work being done for our residents at Mount Hope. While in London, Minister Kusendova-Bashta announced a program expansion that will allow diagnostic services to be done at the bedside in Middlesex County and London long-term care homes, rather than transferring residents to a hospital. This announcement was coupled with an increase in funding to the Equipment and Training Fund in 2024-25, allowing Mount Hope to purchase a doppler device, IV equipment and associated training, helping to better manage and treat the conditions that most often lead to residents having preventable hospital visits.
