We are a registered charity that believes every youth in and from foster care deserves the opportunity to thrive.
About us
Established in 2004, StepStones for Youth is a Toronto-based charity working with youth in and from the child welfare system by increasing educational achievement, securing stable housing, and building long-lasting support networks. StepStones works with children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who have experienced trauma, abuse, unstable guardian care and difficult life circumstances. The young people are at greater risk of unemployment, low educational attainment, and homelessness. We have an established program model that pairs highly qualified staff working with youth in small group settings, where we focus on building skills and relationships. In attaining community and a developed skill set, we have proven results in increasing employment, education, support networks and reducing homelessness. StepStones believes every youth in and from foster care deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Our very own Liora Sobel and Heather O'Keefe, will be speaking at the National Conference on Ending Homelessness hosted by the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH24) on October 30 during the session, “Serving vulnerable youth populations, 2SLGBTQ+, mothers and foster care.” Their presentation will focus on the best practices for working with youth in and from foster care, addressing homelessness among this vulnerable population and how differentiated programming and intervention is essential to best supporting them. CAEH24 will be taking place this year in Ottawa from October 29 – 31. As homelessness rises across the country, this conference brings together advocates, front-line workers, and leaders from coast to coast to learn, connect, and share solutions. You can attend the conference virtually or in person if you’re in Ottawa. Thank you, Tamara Haberman, for attending our Foster Care Unraveled event! We're so grateful for your support and for being a part of the important conversations surrounding foster care and child welfare. Together, we can continue working towards a future where every youth has the opportunity to thrive. 💜
Tamara Haberman, our AMDF Grants Director, attended StepStones for Youth’s Foster Care Unraveled event, a powerful experience that kicked off with a screening of the film “Foster.” This was followed by an insightful panel discussion that delved into the realities of foster care and critical issues within the child welfare system — the evening fostered important conversations that need to be addressed. 💜 Photo 1 (L-R): Kathleen Nicoll, Community Engagement Volunteers and Event Coordinator, Frankie Corrado, Connections Coordinator, Liora Sobel, Chief Operating Officer, Tamara Haberman, AMDF Grants Director Photo 2 (L-R): Tamara Haberman, AMDF Grants Director, and Alexi Manis, Senior Development Coordinator

It was a wonderful presentation Liora Sobel. Thanks to you and to StepStones for Youth for all you do
The role of a keynote speaker is to feature as the headline speaker at an event. It was a privilege to present the work we are doing at StepStones for Youth at the Durham Children's Aid Society Annual General Meeting last month
