1.5 weeks in the US, two big milestones IN already ✅💪 and as always massive learnings! My main goal this time in the US was to complete the Chicago Marathon race, event I've been preparing for the last 6 months. Second milestone, to host the first Tech Leaders Exchange meetup in Chicago, both are now history and here a few anecdotes of them: 1. The Marathon It was race day and as I was told, GPS won’t work for the first miles so the planning was old-school. A tattoo with the split times that helps you stay on track. I meticulously planned my fueling strategy based on my coach suggestions, distributing gels with-and-without caffeine, salt tablets and isotonic drinks throughout the 3hs30minutes race I was pretending to run… one hour into the race, it was time for the first salt tablet, I opened the small bag that contained the 3 tablets and it was empty! Yes, I lost them while opening the bag (due I do everything while running) .. Improvisation became my fuel. I adjusted my gels, upped my Isotonic drink, and calculated new hydration strategies on the go, adaptation and improvisation. 2. Tech Leaders Exchange Meetup Organizing the first “Tech Leaders Exchange” in Chicago came with its own twists too. On the day of the event, I finally was able to get the venue confirmed. It was a rainy day, but nothing was going to stop us, so I started the process of ordering some food for it. It was not later after my card was rejected, not once but 3 times at 3 different places.  Improvisation struck again— I stopped by a store en route, picked up 30 bottles of water, and arrived at the venue soaked from the rain, it started to rain after getting out the store, once again. Arriving by the venue, the receptionist even mistook me for the delivery guy! It was fun!  Anyways, we had super great conversations and stories! I really appreciate the effort on coming in and sharing such a great time learning and hearing from others. Don't you feel like tech is moving faster and fater every month that goes by? I wonder if that is brining more equal opportunities or a bigger divide... We’ve got AI, quantum computing, robotics, and blockchain all advancing faster than most people can keep up. 🚀 These are technologies that could (in theory) level the playing field. But are they really going to create equal opportunities for everyone, or are we just building systems that widen the gap? 🤔 Capitalism, for better or worse, rewards innovation, right? But here’s the thing...the benefits of this tech are piling up for the people who already have access...big corporations, wealthy nations, the tech-savvy few billionaires 🏢💰 (the new public figures we hear about in a daily basis). AI? It’s going to automate a lot of jobs. Sure, more efficiency, but where do the displaced workers go if we don’t have a plan? Massive reskilling needed here. 📚 Quantum computing? Yeah, it’s coming and it’s a beast.💥 But let’s be real...only a few major players are in the game right now 🎯. How do we make sure it doesn’t centralize power even more? Blockchain and decentralization? Sounds great, but how much of that is really going to be accessible to the average person? 🌐 Are we just shifting power to a new set of elites? Look, tech can be the great equalizer ⚖️. But only if we’re smart about how we deploy it. Otherwise, we’re just making the rich richer and leaving everyone else further behind 🧑💻⬅️🏦. Are AI models as smart as we think? 🤔 A recent study from Apple's AI scientists challenges the hype around large language models (LLMs) like those from OpenAI and Meta. While these models impress with their vast capabilities, Apple’s research highlights a critical flaw: they cannot reason effectively. The team introduced a new benchmark, GSM-Symbolic, to test reasoning skills, and the results are eye-opening. Small tweaks in how questions are phrased can dramatically change the models' answers, even when those changes shouldn't affect the logic. For example, adding an irrelevant sentence about the size of kiwis in a math problem caused AI models to miscalculate, subtracting kiwis that shouldn’t have been subtracted. This points to a deeper issue: LLMs rely heavily on pattern matching, not actual understanding or critical thinking. The study found no evidence of formal reasoning, showing that simply changing a name or adding irrelevant info can confuse these AI systems.
