We believe that a home is far more than just a structure; it is a living, breathing vessel that nurtures the lives and relationships within it.
A home should serve you and your loved ones, offering a space that fosters curiosity, wellness, and growth. It is a stage for life’s stories, where cherished memories unfold and lasting connections are built. Designed to age gracefully alongside its inhabitants, a well-crafted home becomes a part of your life’s journey, enriching your experiences and supporting the important relationships that define it.
In every project, we see the transformative power of thoughtful design and the lasting impact it has on our clients’ lives. Our approach centers on creating spaces that not only reflect the unique values, interests, and passions of each client but also tell their family’s story. We are passionate about ensuring that the homes we create are more than just visually striking—they are designed to promote wellness and enhance the quality of living. Every detail, from layout to materials, contributes to a harmonious environment where well-being and beauty coexist.
Rooted in a strong connection to place, our designs go beyond aesthetics. We craft spaces that resonate with the local culture, history, and landscape, blending seamlessly into their surroundings. By personalizing each design, we create homes that are not only a reflection of the client’s vision but also deeply connected to the community and environment they inhabit. This holistic approach results in homes that are meaningful, enduring, and life-enhancing.

Drawing inspiration from the clients’ curated collection of classic design pieces, such as the Eames Hang-It-All and the Artek Aalto chair, Saturation Renovation incorporates the bold and vibrant primary colours typical of mid-century modern furniture.
Rather than creating a neutral background for these iconic pieces, vibrant colours enhance and reflect their distinctive character, aligning the playful design with the clients’ aesthetic identity.
At the heart of the home, a large monochromatic island serves as a bold centrepiece. With its moulded sink and colour-matched tap, the island integrates with the clients’ existing furniture, as though it is its own piece to be added to the collection.
Concrete terrazzo tiling on the floor and backsplash offers visual relief and connects the space to the entryway and powder room, where the same tile is used.

Saturation Renovation embraces a playful yet sophisticated design approach, integrating vibrant colours and patterns with refined elegance.
The use of bold hues and monochromatic forms brings dynamic energy to the home, while recurring features like terrazzo tile and metal elements create a cohesive flow across spaces.
Designed to accommodate a growing family, Saturation Renovation optimizes space and strategically uses colour and surface treatments to create illusions of height and openness.
The entry hall features elegant millwork hidden under the stairs for laundry and cleaning supplies, while a floor-to-ceiling mirror and monochromatic wall enhance the sense of vertical space. Similarly, the powder room uses mirrors to create an expansive visual effect within the minimally sized room.

The clients came to us with a well-established, beautiful collection of iconic furniture pieces. We used these as a starting point for the colour palette, incorporating vibrant, poppy colours typical of pieces like the Eames Hang-It-All and Aalto Stool.
Instead of creating a neutral backdrop, we integrated these pieces into the design, allowing them to be central elements rather than just accents. The result is a design where large, colour-blocked elements have their own identity and contribute to the overall collection.
This home was designed for a growing family, so maximizing space was essential. We used strategies to make the house feel larger, such as placing a large mirror at the end of the narrow entry hall to create the illusion of an extended space. In the powder room, we used additional mirrors to create a sense of infinite space, despite its small size. As you move into the living room, the furniture’s bright colours start to interact with the architecture, tying the design together with recurring elements like the tile used throughout the house.
Viewing a project from multiple angles helps illustrate the relationships between different spaces. As designers, our job is to create cohesive vignettes that weave together. It’s important to capture the small details and compose a vignette or render that effectively communicates why the design is powerful and what the key nuanced elements are. Framing these aspects beautifully, just like in photography, is essential.
Photography is akin to capturing feelings and emotions in a picture, and the way an image is composed plays a crucial role in conveying those emotions. Drawing inspiration from the artful side of photography, we use it to inform how we compose a render, focusing on the details that matter. This method allows us to relay the emotion, concept, and intention behind a design to clients who may not be as familiar with it after months of development.

The design of Sunnyside House takes inspiration from the traditional Sunnyside cottages, featuring a highly contextual approach.
A gabled roofline and scalloped facade details create a unique shadow condition, while the material composition ensures the house fits seamlessly into the neighbourhood.
The sheltered third-floor balcony serves as a viewing platform, offering stunning downtown views and enhancing the connection to the cityscape.
Our thoughtful design incorporates elements that reflect the historic character of the area, while also introducing contemporary touches that elevate the overall aesthetic.
Prospective buyers of Sunnyside House will acquire not only the land but also an architecturally striking design approved by the City of Calgary. The current house is slated for demolition in August, paving the way for the new development.
This approval ensures that the project is ready to move forward, with the building permit phase still awaiting the new owner’s discretion.
Buyers will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with Studio North’s talented team of designers during the interior design and building permit phases, allowing for the customization of final finishes and selections, ensuring a truly bespoke space.
