Founded in 1973, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is one of the largest social service agencies in Canada. It offers a wide range of programs and services that promote the belonging, wellness, and independence of people on their Canadian journey. Program and services are offered in the areas of newcomer settlement, English language training, employment and entrepreneurship, family, youth and seniors programming, health education, community development, seniors care, and affordable housing. Its diverse team of more than 500 staff deliver services to clients from 150 countries through 40 service locations across Canada and in Asia. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. acknowledges the ancestral and traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples across the regions that we live and work. Before I arrived in Canada, I knew I wanted to make the most of public, community resources - like my local library! 📚 🫶 I've attended a number of in-person workshops and webinars hosted by the Vancouver Public Library in collaboration with organizations such as the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre, and S.U.C.C.E.S.S.. Today's Drop-In Resume Clinic was a fantastic opportunity to get personalized feedback on my Canadian-style resume. My goal when sharing it with potential employers is to communicate the curiosity, skills, and drive I bring to an organization - and to be invited for an interview! Other sessions that have helped me on my journey so far include: Career Resources, Career and Job Search Tour, How to Use LinkedIn, Networking and the Hidden Job Market, and Workplace Communication in Canada. In only a few short weeks, I have learned so much about communicating my achievements and outcomes instead of describing tasks, giving my resume the best chance at surviving applicant tracking system (ATS) software, and understanding the mindset and hiring methods of Canadian employers - to name a few! Libraries are a taonga (treasure). I'm proud to live in a city with practical, accessible resources for newcomers to find work.
