Affectionately known as “Syncrude Santa” around Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Suncor board operator Harry Budgell was recently awarded the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal for his outstanding community service. Harry’s holiday gesture dates back more than 20 years when he first dressed in red and handed out candy canes to co-workers as he finished a shift in the Syncrude control room on Christmas Day. That evolved into attending holiday parties and his appearance as "Syncrude Santa" became an annual tradition, which now includes his wife dressing as Mrs. Claus. Harry’s dedication to spreading joy is inspiring and we thank him for his incredible contributions to the community! // Affectueusement connu comme le père Noël de Syncrude (Syncrude Santa) dans la région de Wood Buffalo de Fort McMurray, le tableauteur de Suncor Harry Budgell a récemment reçu la prestigieuse médaille du couronnement du Roi Charles III pour son service exceptionnel à la collectivité.   La tradition des Fêtes de Harry remonte à plus de 20 ans lorsqu'il a revêtu le costume rouge pour la première fois, remettant des cannes de bonbon à ses collègues tandis qu'il terminait un quart à la salle de contrôle de Syncrude le jour de Noël. Il a ensuite commencé à participer aux célébrations des Fêtes et son apparition en tant que père Noël de Syncrude est devenue une tradition annuelle, qui comprend désormais son épouse vêtue en mère Noël.   Le dévouement de Harry à répandre la joie est inspirant et nous le remercions de ses formidables contributions à la collectivité! 

Hundreds of our Fort McMurray employees and their families got a close-up look at some of our newest haul trucks earlier this month before the equipment was deployed to our Base Plant mine north of Fort McMurray. The truck bodies were painted blue and red to celebrate the strength of Suncor's integrated energy business from responsible oil sands development to providing fuel to customers at our Petro-Canada pumps. Proudly owned by Suncor, Petro-Canada is celebrating 50 years of serving Canadians! Thank you to everyone who helped raise more than $9,000 for the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation, which provides grants to charities that support family caregivers in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo and beyond. // Des centaines de nos employés de Fort McMurray et membres de leur famille ont pu voir de près certains de nos plus récents camions de transport plus tôt ce mois-ci, avant le déploiement de l'équipement à notre mine de l'usine de base au nord de Fort McMurray. Suncor's Brayden Kijewski hyped up competitors at the 2025 Canadian Mining Games in Quebec City earlier this month, where mining engineering students from across the country showcased their skills through a series of challenges. The event is a key opportunity for us to meet emerging talent and for students to learn about opportunities at Suncor. Brayden is a great example. Starting his career with Syncrude, he has grown with the company, embodying the values that drive Suncor's success. While spring is approaching, there’s a temperature “sweet spot” when it comes to mining oil sands in the winter. According to Melvin O’Brien, Mine Operations Manager at our Fort Hills site, at -10 C, haul trucks can run faster and go farther because of the frozen winter roads, but it’s not so cold that equipment fails or needs time to warm up. “Miners are always excited about the winter,” says Melvin. Melvin and his team start thinking about winter readiness long before the mercury drops and the first snowflake falls. Considerations like working safely with fewer daylight hours are all part of the planning process.
