What would it take to restore the world's forests? It's a question that demands us to think not just about the trees, but about the people who grow them. The land stewarded by smallholder farmers collectively represents one of the biggest opportunities to restore the world’s forests, but farmers often face barriers to make land-use choices in favour of growing trees. Taking Root works with farmers to remove those barriers so that growing trees improves their livelihoods. The result is lasting impacts for the benefit of climate, nature, and people. Watch our latest video to learn more about how we're successfully restoring the world's forests in partnership with smallholder farmers. #ForestRestoration #NatureBasedSolutions #CarbonRemovals #SmallholderFarmers Pachamama Film

We enable smallholder farmers to grow trees and earn money from the carbon they remove from the atmosphere.
About us
Taking Root’s purpose is to accelerate the restoration of the world’s forests. We enable smallholder farmers to grow trees and earn money from the carbon they remove from the atmosphere. Our technology and support make it simple for our reforestation partners to create transparent and robust forest carbon removals. From registering farmers and recruiting land, to monitoring trees grown and the carbon stored over time, we provide the tools at every step of the way to help our partners successfully manage and scale their carbon projects. Recognized for its best practices by the UN, EU, and World Economic Forum, Taking Root is connecting thousands of farmers to the carbon market, improving their livelihoods by restoring forests around the world. Please note that Taking Root's technology platform was formerly called FARM-TRACE. This name was dropped in April 2022 when Taking Root rebranded, which included integrating the technology platform into its identity. FARM-TRACE is now referred to as Taking Root’s technology platform.

6.3 million hectares of land were deforested in 2023, including over 4 million of tropical forests, according to a report by Forest Declaration Assessment. As all eyes turn to COP16 and the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework, the report's words resonate more now than ever: "We cannot afford for these trends to continue. All leaders must unite to prioritize forest protection, conservation, and restoration." Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/diaaz_cT #ClimateAction #nature #NatureBasedSolutions

Taking Root's Meike Siegner has contributed to a policy piece for the upcoming G20 summit in Brazil. Led by Lara Fornabaio and Lisa Sachs from the Columbia Center for Sustainable Investments, the piece advocates for a crucial shift in public and private investments from nature-negative finance to nature-based solutions. As world leaders prepare to gather later this year, it's imperative to champion the financing of nature-based solutions to improve livelihoods, restore nature, and mitigate the climate crisis. The policy piece emphasizes that these solutions should prioritize community-led restoration and high-quality credits, ensuring that the co-benefits of these projects directly benefit local people. 🌍 Excited to share our policy brief for the upcoming #G20 Meeting in #Brazil next month. We explore how to catalyze public and private investments to scale up the socio-bioeconomy and nature-based solutions. Our key recommendations include: ✔️ Developing #bioeconomy frameworks aligned with #SDGs, the Paris Agreement, circularity, and a just, community-centric transition ❌ Ceasing nature-negative finance 🌱 Restoring degraded ecosystems and lands ❗ Ensuring nature-based solutions support, not delay, rapid decarbonization It has been a joy collaborating on this project with lead author Lara Fornabaio and Lisa Sachs from Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (USA) Meike Siegner from Taking Root (Canada) and Vivek Pandey from Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) (India). Thank you to Julie Risien and the Office for Research Advancement at Oregon State University and College of Forestry at Oregon State University for supporting this collaboration. Taking Root has been busy attending key industry events to share insights and connect with the climate community. 🌎🌱 Our CEO Kahlil Baker recently spoke at New York Climate Week on a panel hosted by Top Tier Impact and Ethic’s Showcasing Nature & Biodiversity Investments event, exploring the latest strategies to unlock capital for nature and biodiversity. Meanwhile, Nicole Wachtel joined Climate North to discuss Taking Root's human-centric approach to forest restoration through nature-based carbon removals. It’s been a full and productive few weeks for Taking Root, but we remain energized in our pursuit to accelerate the restoration of the world’s forests. #ClimateWeekNYC #Sustainability #carbon #ClimateAction

The CommuniTree Carbon Program in Nicaragua is only possible thanks to APRODEIN, a local team of agroforestry experts. They support farmers throughout the entire lifecycle of the project, helping them to improve their livelihoods by growing trees. We recently spoke to Elvin Castellón Alvarado, co-founder of CommuniTree and Executive Director of APRODEIN. He explained more about their vital role in making the project a success.
