Almost a quarter-million Canadians are on waitlists for affordable housing. Our communities need MANY more non-profit housing units — quickly. Community bonds can help us get there. We're working with housing providers across the country to take control of their financing, close pre-development funding gaps, and invite communities into the process, all with the goal to build or save thousands of units for their neighbours. Tapestry's Ryan Collins-Swartz and Kyle Zhang are in Ottawa this week at the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness National Conference, presenting our vision for community financed housing. Say hi if you see them! 👋 Learn more about our work in housing here: tapestrycapital.ca/housing #affordablehousing #housingaffordability #impactinvesting

Huge congrats to Nick van der Velde and the Indwell team for a community bond campaign so successful it's expanding! 🎉
I am excited to share that Indwell raised $5 million dollars in five months attracting 70+ retail investors with our Hope and Homes Hamilton Community Bond! Isn't that incredible? We are grateful to our support community and blown away by the success of our bond raise. (shout out to Tapestry Community Capital for guiding us through this process!) The story doesn't stop there! With the addition of Century Manor to our Hamilton portfolio of projects in pre-development, we decided to open up our campaign again and move our campaign ceiling from $5 million to $6 million dollars. This means that you can still invest! Please visit https://lnkd.in/gkepuZgP and complete the sign-up sheet at the bottom of the page - we would love to hear from you!

🌟 We are thrilled to announce that Affordable Housing Societies has invested $100,000 in Propolis Bonds! 🌟 We think this is a ground-breaking investment, not just because it significantly advances our community bond campaign towards its target, but also because it demonstrates what meaningful solidarity and capacity building in the community housing sector can look like. At Propolis we’re committed to building affordable, sustainable cooperative housing for Kamloops. And we’re confronted every day with just how difficult it is to start a cooperative from the ground up in our current development context. While housing cooperatives seem like a ready solution to the housing crisis, they are incredibly hard to launch. The funding and regulatory process is set up for large-scale established developers. Building affordability into a pro-growth market is a difficult and challenging process. There are immense pressures on the community housing sector as the housing crisis continues to escalate. We need to grow the capacity of our sector so that we can build the housing our communities need, which means we need access to time, expertise and resources. Organizations like Propolis need partners like AHS who are willing to build solidarity and leverage their resources to bring a shared vision to life. We can only get through this together. Stephen Bennett, CEO at AHS, shared this: “At the Affordable Housing Societies we believe in the power of housing to change communities, and we believe in the power of people to bring the most creative solutions to the housing crisis we find ourselves in today in BC. We have been so impressed with the creativity behind Propolis’ approach and the people involved with the idea for their first project that we wanted to invest in a meaningful way to help ensure this vitally needed building becomes a reality in Kamloops. We are excited to see construction commence soon, and the first residents move into their new home in 2026.” Together, we’re creating lasting change and affordable housing for all. Thank you to the whole team at Affordable Housing Societies for believing in our vision and for being a vital part of this journey! 🙌💛

Community organizations shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to buy property. Nonprofits, charities and co-ops need access to real estate — space to provide important services, from affordable housing to arts programming. At Tapestry, we’re democratizing access to capital and social purpose real estate. Through community bonds, we help organizations raise capital directly from their communities of supporters, and use that capital to: 🛠️ Have cash at the ready for when a property comes on the market, especially affordable housing at risk of rent hikes 🛠️ Buy specific buildings or land to develop community space 🛠️ Pay for pre-development costs, like architectural, design, engineering, and legal fees 🛠️ And more! Curious about whether community bonds are right for your organization? Take our qualifier quiz to find out: https://lnkd.in/eVKFxy26

I need to sell 30 tickets to my event next week on October 9th. I know you care about Toronto, so here's why you should buy a ticket: 1) Our city is at a tipping point. Commercial rents are up 67% since 2020. Local restos, galleries, art studios & retailers are closing. Big chains are moving in. MDRNZE is our chance to flip the script and keep local business local. 2) You'll meet Toronto's economic rebels. Harrison Amit's taking on Uber with HOVR. Anyika Mark's fighting for Little Jamaica. Chloe-Marie Brown's re-imagining city politics. These folks are reshaping our city, block by block. 3) It's not just talk. Along with Kensington Market Community Land Trust, we're building actionable strategies to keep wealth local, slow/reverse business displacement, and fight for commercial tenant rights. Real solutions for real problems. 4) Connect with 60+ local business, policy & creative industry leaders who give a GOSH-DARN about this city's future. These are your future collaborators, supporters, maybe even your next business partner - I KNOW you're going to love meeting these folks. 5) It's a steal. $12 gets you in the door. AND you'll get to eat! 30 tickets to help MDRNZE achieve real city-building momentum. So, are you in? Grab your ticket here: https://lnkd.in/gzNHVbMY #torontobusiness #kensingtonmarket

Today, we honour Truth and Reconciliation Day. We, at the Palestine Impact Collective, acknowledge the painful history and ongoing impacts of colonialism and systemic oppression faced by Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. We stand in solidarity with the survivors of residential schools, the missing and murdered Indigenous women, their families, and all Indigenous communities as they continue the long journey toward healing and justice. The Palestinian struggle for justice shares deep parallels with the experiences of Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. Both peoples face displacement, cultural erasure, and systemic marginalization, making our fight for justice and equality interconnected. We recognize the importance of listening, learning, and amplifying Indigenous voices in their quest for self-determination, much as we do for Palestine. We encourage our members and all those who believe in our cause to first read Indigenous voices/words: - Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women - 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act by Chief Bob Joseph - Decolonization is not a metaphor by Eve Tuck and K. Wayne Yang - Read the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Report and reflect on how you can play a role in advancing these Calls to Action.
